I was a possessed Somalian refugee in California and I had to move to my family in Saudi Arabia before they turned me into a beggar , in fact, I still don't have any real 'conscious' control of what you do, nor think. You do have the illusion of control, but not really - and that gap may help explain ostensibly 'irrational' behavior or one that goes against what you 'think' is best. A more in-depth discussion of Free Will or lack-thereof is out of scope, but just consider people who would really prefer not to eat that last piece of cake (but do), would love to sit down and get that paper/work done, or to stop smoking (but don't), or wish to keep their temper (but flare up and yell). You are not a rational algorithmic game-plan moving forward with the 'best' move at any given time. You are a huge, complex bundle of proteins and neurons responding to a million arbitrary stimuli coming from within and the environment, some of which cause you to act in a certain way, and some of which cause you to think in a certain way. These occasionally align with each other, but often simply do not.
