I met George when we visited from South Carolina back in May. I didn't know he went there until we just sat down on the picnic table and just started chatting. This man was so nice and showed us around like we had our own personal tour guide. I got the coolest picture of him inside his jail cell. Thanks for the great stories George.

Did the tour last weekend. The video in the museum is an absolute must watch BEFORE you tour the prison. It adds so much to it to think what went on behind those walls. Lastly...the Struggle Bus Bloody Mary mix at the distillery is off the charts delicious!!

I met George 5 May 2023. Before the tour started there was 4 other couples there besides my wife and I. There were small talk between all of us and George. Then I started telling my history of not just the prison but about Petros as well. George took interest in what I had to say and talked to me throughout the tour. My great grandfather was a medical Doctor and practiced medical services from Chattanooga to Petros in the early 1900s till he died in 1936 in Petros. He had a 100 acre farm which he lived in from time to time in Dayton (Rhea Co) and he had a Doctor office in Dayton as well. **He built the first hospital in Dayton** He also had a 2-story house in Petros. Upstairs is where he lived and downstairs was his office. When in Petros he was the Doctor for the coal miners and Brushy Mountain Prison. My grandmother (1913-2011) and her youngest sister (1917=1939) were born in Petros. Oldest sister (1910-1998) was born in Dayton. I had a cousin that worked at the prison 1977-1982 (or 83-84) He later became Roane Co Sheriff Deputy till he retired around 2015 I heard many stories of the things that went on in that prison. During the majority part of the 1980s I stayed in Petros with a friend that lived there. Sometimes I drive by the prison and wondered what is was like in there. This tour satisfied my curiosity but also I learned quite a bit more through George. Just a last note - I also knew a few bad folks that ended up at Brushy. Let's just say that one of them went in and out of Brushy a few times. He was really a mean mean town bully that even hit his mother and sister and would threaten people in town. The final draw was a poker game with the owner at a bar and he lost the poker game. He simply pulled a gun out and shot the owner inside the bar....... right between the eyes before the guy even knew what happened. This was around 1984. You would think if someone has been inside Brushy just one time would be enough BUT I guess not. This place really was really meant for the worst of the worst
