I'm working with the local civil protection director to make a prototype of a torpedo style rescue floatation device to be donated and mounted on natural wood posts at our most historically dangerous beaches. These torpedoes are abusively priced ($150 USD), not available locally here in México and not available in all-natural materials but I'm working to change that. We need a local bioplastics supplier with materials well suited for this purpose with sheet plastic that can be manually heat-formed over a mold. And for a much larger scale impact, we need an estimate of the cost of mold that could be used with recycled plastics, bioplastics and biodegradable plastics also to blow mold them for us. If we can raise the funds to pay for the mold ourselves, the devices can be relatively very inexpensive which will make them very accessible and help save lives everywhere they're used.

What temperature are you melting HDPE at? Started running a extrusion machine in the shop, now looking to try building a DIY roto mold

I’ve heard it is an exploratory device meant to show us the depths of the Baltic Sea. That being said I’m no plastic expert.

@Harjap zzstu Khabra When I see "research equipment", I figure it must be about $5800 then, right? And it's bought by the thousands of NPO's and other organizations that are currently suckling off of the government teat?

Why do the producers of so many videos feel the need to include cheesy music? Speaking could add useful information, while music is often just a distraction.

Totally agree and usually the ones with just music have very low views and likes.

Then turn off the music. Basically everything is explained in the video and doesn’t need voiceover. Music is just an overlay so it’s not mute and have proved to make people watch more of the video.

This process just looks terribly inefficient compared to injection molding.

There are pros and cons to both, they are different processes designed for different types of parts. You can't injection mold huge hollow shapes. Rotomolding is also lower cost and low molding pressure unlike injection and blow molding.

@@pianofool26 Totally agree. For this huge part, injection molding machine would be very expensive due to high pressure needed.

this is horribly inefficient. thermoforming can do this for about 10% and extremely faster. you can fuse thermoformed to become one with same properties

Rotomolding produces very strong parts, this can never be matched by injection molding or thermoforming. Of course, it has it drawbacks, but so is every other manufacturing process.
