Forklift Safety: Stay in the Cab, Stay Alive
Every year workers are crushed, maimed, and killed when they jump or are thrown from forklifts. This video reminds forklift drivers to wear their seat belts. And if your machine does tip, brace yourself, and stay in the cab.

Pressure put on operators by some companies puts stress on fork truck drivers to operate quicker unfortunately and this leads to accidents.
We use stand up lifts and they don't have belts. Something should be there tho cause falling out is a very real possibility when turning/spinning. Some lifts take off quick. One guy getting trained for the first time on a lift busted his head open as the lift took off on him like a mule. He fell out backwards falling onto a rack hitting his head and cracking it open. He's lucky to be alive. There was blood everywhere.

You are absolutely supposed to get out of a falling stand up lift. If you stay inside the compartment of a falling stand up you are very likely to die.

Nah, don't bring uncessary options to the standup forklifts. People that are used to G force from go-kart or roller coasters find ways to hold on without seat belt, and are more proficient than people start learning it. Adding more liablity of human workers will make company go automation. For example, Red Bull uses automated reach forklifts, and only human operated forklifts are the sitdown for loading. I can do lot more putaways than robots, but they said its safer and less training.
Don't forget the part after you survive the incident where you fail the drug test, lose your job, and end up back at moms.

Better than being taken out in pieces, aye?
Be brilliant at the basics and stay alive.
Licensed driver here. Seat belts are essenial for safety but this video fails to mention the very first falure; the load is being transported too high. The load needs to be transported nearer the floor; 2 inchs off the floor is about right in order to keep the center of gravity working in favor. By carrying the load that hgh the triangle of gravity is elongated and has raised the cener of gravity to a seriously ineffective level. Also, (not sure video is sped up) speed of travel is excessive.

Little late but the video did say that.

Sometimes I have to raise my load really high in the air to get around obstacles that may be in the way of hitting the load. But definitely agree 100% what you said

@@andreww1001 lol, this guy probably had grand kids now
Just buckle in & stay secure.
Amen to that.
even though there was a seat belt, no one would notice to wear it cuz or being forgotten or after years of work they think they can manage the forklift pretty without a seat belt, it's just like riding a motocycle without a helmet but you wouln't even notice
Good to know
THE FORKLIFT SHOULDANT START WITHOUT THE SEATBELT CLICKED IN

Than morons would keep seat belt behind them and security switch would be overridden.

That was tried in 1974 with every car. Didn't work then.
never hold onto the steering wheel, brace yourself on a non-moving part. the steering wheel can break your wrists if it moves when the wheels land on the ground.
do forklifts have safety switches in the seats like riding lawnmowers do

Yes they have. At least the Toyota one at my work.

Some actually do. If you aren't on the seat on certain lifts, the gas & mast controls do not react to input
This is good advice obviously. But honestly the only way you could get crushed by jumping is if you jumped out the way the forklift was tilting. Which, is pretty stupid

WorkplaceBC has another video where a dude gets his back broken because he put it in gear while standing next to the cab. The wheel was turned, unbeknownst to him, and while trying to jump back in he got himself hit and pinned to a wall

2nd hand story Witnesses saw the bull dozer slide down an embankment and tip over, saw the operator remove his seat belt, and try to jump the other way, realize he couldn't jump from the tipping dozer, then try to jump clear the other way. Fraction of a second to make all those decisions, which cost him his life. Front load the O.O.D.A. loop by deciding what you will do if something happens, before it happens. "I will keep my seat belt on, grip the steering wheel, plant my feet, and lean away from the direction of the fall."
If you work for idiot's like I do they push you to the very limit of what you can do every day and expect more and more
mistake 1. He had his load too high lol.
Not wearing a seatbelt
his load was too high and not smart to do this will cause you be safer or die if you do not do a safety check on your machine you are driving . that's why i always get a Licensed i am informed how to use the machine and the training from the job im at too
Your first mistake was traveling with the load so high up
@zozanday your not smart
he turned fast out 90 degrees without thing of observation and COUNTER WEIGHT!
