I'm 69yrs old , started helping dad on the farm in 1966 on a new 4020 John Deere. In 1980 dad traded for a 1970 5020. A few yrs later I bought my 5020. The front axle is the weakest place to pull on. The frame is the strongest place to pull on. If you spent as time on a 5020 as I have , you would be glad to have that ugly cab! A 5020 weights about 9 1/2 to 10 ton. I now have a 4010 and 4020 they do every thing I need to do.

Those were great tractors. Dad had 67 5020. Be sure to keep tabs on the oil to see if there is water in it. That has a wet sleeve engine and sometimes after setting a while the o-ring on the bottom of one of the sleeves will leak water into the oil. Dad's did it just setting over the winter. And timing is critical with that engine, learn how to check the timing and set it exact and it will make a difference on how it pulls. Yes, you have a 24 volt system, actually you have two twelve volt systems, one negitave ground and one positive that come together in the starter to make 24 volts. You have 12 volt lights and half run off of one set of batteries and the other half run off the other set of batteries, and the charge in both sets of batteries needs to be kept equal or the alternator won't charge. We converted Dad's to 12 volt negitave ground with getting a 12 volt starter and alternator. Like I said, they are great old tractors.

Some John Deere 5010 tractors have been restored by collectors, preserving and showcasing these vintage machines at tractor shows and events. If you own or are interested in a specific John Deere 5010 tractor, keep in mind that individual tractors can vary based on factors such as maintenance, modifications, and any restoration work that may have been done over the years. The John Deere 5010 was manufactured in the 1960s. It was part of the New Generation series of tractors introduced by John Deere during that era

That ridiculous looking cab will feel great in December and January. In fact when pressure washed it won't look so ridiculous. 5010 is one of my favorite tractors. When pressure washed it is possible the batteries will somewhat return but I doubt it. This engine sounds wonderful. The pulling power of the 5010 is very great. Whatever that guage in the middle of the dash is reporting, after you drove it to your friend's it was up in the green and when it left it's grave it was sitting down on the peg not reading anything.

Must have been the temp, that and the oil pressure were the only two things that worked in there lol

This looks like an early 5010, with still the original 5010 head. Most off the 5010s were repowered. Also, for the year 1964, the 5010 got the 4020 dash,so the ones with the 4010 dash are very rare.

I’ve had the pleasure of operating this beast. Big clunky and heavy but the hard startin beast got it done
Great barn find
The JD tractors were as tough as they come(the poppers were bullet proof)but the 5010,5020,6030 were also ridiculously over built also,so that cab was a big feature on those western units I personally would keep that unique western cab just saying bro, cheers

Right! I am planning on leaving it. I am a Deere fan of the 10-20 series. Not that the 30 and 40 series weren’t great tractors, they just lack the “heft” of the older series
came to this page for the massey connection but happy to see old strong tractors revived.

JT, Keep the Cab and add an AC to the top. It's a JD don't be afraid to Gucci it up 🙂
Another killer video!!! At the right Place that should bring good money.
You find the coolest old tractors. Can't wait to see you get started on the old IH

Excellent video JT :) also yes amazing old tractor lives on and would bath up also leave cab on too ! Fix up and plus use to !
Great find. I love the old John Deere's. I grew up farm with a 4320 and 4020
JT... Keep the cab!! That makes it look better than just a dang ole regular john deere
Nothing runs like a deere
Nice JD series. I grew up on a JD 5020 row crop tractor in mid Michigan. Big tractors during those times.
That cab is rare find right there 👌 keep it on har.
Love the Egging cab! And that one is in great shape. I have a group on Facebook for vintage tractor cabs
I love the cab. I believe that is an orchard cab because of the round fenders. Looks good
JT, starting to wonder when we will be watching videos on a barn build!! That would make some nice viewing!!! Another great find, thanks for sharing.

Nice tractor. Back in 1970 we had a man in Sd put a Detroit diesel in a 5010. One hell of a pulling tractor!
So glad u bought it. Would have been a shame to pull it back in the barn to finish rotting away.
Another beast👍
Some John Deere 5010 tractors have been restored by collectors, preserving and showcasing these vintage machines at tractor shows and events. If you own or are interested in a specific John Deere 5010 tractor, keep in mind that individual tractors can vary based on factors such as maintenance, modifications, and any restoration work that may have been done over the years. The John Deere 5010 was manufactured in the 1960s. It was part of the New Generation series of tractors introduced by John Deere during that era
I giggled like a kid watching

Egging Cab made in Gurley, NE. Fairly common in Western KS and Western NE. Have one on an 806 wheatland. Actually had a 5010 with an egging and factory sunshades a couple years back. Had 23.1-30 rear rubber and an M&W turbo.
That was too easy. What a great find.
Saw it's twin sister yesterday at the Box Elder County Utah fair. 5010 same cab, paint in the same condition.
Woah!, Hold up a minute. there are enough old tractors on that place for a classic tractor show. You gotta go back for more.
Great clip!! You're gonna need a new shed for all the "new" tractors you've rescued and got running!! Good for your!!

That tractor must have been the beast in it's day.
Might be 24volt setup? Put a lot of hours on my dad's, an early model, had a lot of engine problems. Some of the neighbors later made them into 5020 engines. Worked a lot better. Good luck!
From Denmark, I think your site is good, you come up with many things that I think are good. And then I love Massey ferguson, especially 1150/1155., but your 1805 is very cool. When I started farming as a 14-year-old in 1972, I had a BRAND NEW Massey Ferguson 165 to drive. I was very proud. Keep up your good work. Thumbs up from Denmark.

I know the only thing that saved this tractor was the fact it was parked indoors for all those years. Haa far has the deeeres the 20;30 ,40 and 50 series was some of there best tractors. What a gem can't wait to see it all completely revived and looking fresh again. I think it's great JT you reviving this old iron and giving it a new life again. Great video has always keep upthr awesome work can't wait to see what's next. Thank you for what you do.

Man that started like it was parked yesterday looking forward to seeing what you do with it

I have one like you have that type of a cab and one with a 4440 cab on it I brought them tractors in 1980 still have them
That's sweet
Man oh man , my dream tractor . I wanted a 5010 for many years but not none around here and way to expensive on tractor house . Hey, I really enjoyed watching it come alive

Great find. I'm very familiar with the synchro range shift pattern. I grew up driving my dad's 4010 and 4020. Lotta rounds. Thanks for the video. Very wet conditions in SE Michigan at the moment also.

I've seen a few of those 5020s with 25000+ hours on them, still going. What's neat is the repowerd ones with engines 25% or bigger than the original, shows they were built like an army tank.
I've never seen that cab before. It should stay. Also you should invest in the Milwaukee Tire inflator and not the little one, get the bigger one. I pumped up a combine front tire with it but it took a couple of batteries lol.
Man thats so awesome to see these old barn finds fire right up after sitting for 20years. What about the other one in the barn?

A local bloke bought one almost the same, but with air con unit on the cab roof, like you, he didnt like the cab, so off it came, he let me work it for 3 hours, but I am a Massey man, i wasnt fond tbh. He had had it on a HP tester, 120hp at the PTO. He still uses it on land work on the family farm, it will be about 30 years since he imported it from the states to the UK.
Agreed. I bet she’ll look much better after a power wash.

Sure won’t hurt any!
Leave it as is for awhile . Cab and all . That's real character.
Had a rear door Cab on a Moline G705. Called it the Road grader
That is an awesome find!!!! I am team keep the cab, and let it been in factory work clothes. Unless it is some rare one off it doesn't add much value to repaint and remove the cab. If you do that it looks like every other restored 5010. Just my opinion.
I watched a video of a guy got one of these tractors running after it sat for years and it ran great for about ten hours then it spun the main bearings 😢 hopefully that doesn’t happen to this unit thanks for sharing

Nope. Egging cab. Egging Company, Gurley, Nebraska. 69141. Dad had a 4020 with Egging cab, as did many farmers in this part of the country.
That's an Egging cab, they were very popular as an aftermarket option back in the day. I have a 190 Allis Chalmers with the same cab but dual side entry instead of rear.

Search separately. Most of the cabs got chucked off at some point in their life.
Awesome find buddy! Keep the cab IMO. Really don't see those at all. Would be a great snow plow tractor with a Allied Front Dozer Blade on it. If you remove the cab IMO it'd ruin it for me. Don't even paint it
