Good morning Matt, i enjoy my morning Coffee watching your video 's. I have the Herters book, Joe's Panther page page 142, was invented by George Herter in 1962 and named after Joseph Herter. Love the history in books like this.
I love those older fly patterns you tie. And, as a kid, I would spend hours browsing the Herter's catalog with my Dad. You sure triggered some fond memories. As always, thanks for taking the time to produce your channel.

Gotta have the flash. Love Flys invented by the tyer. I rarely follow patterns. Maybe because I had the old books as a kid. Creativity and catchability always intrigued me. Making up a fly that catches is priceless. Tight lines!
I join the ranks of morning coffee and fly tying videos
I've been teaching the kids next door. How to tie flies and wet fly fishing is and this looks like a good fly to show them real easy but with just enough techniques to make it a little challenging for a newbie.
Some blues on the stereo, coffee in the mug, and a Savage Flies video on KZread. That's what I call relaxing on Sundy!

Thanks Matt for all you do for our sport! Personally you have given me dozens of ideas for time spent at the bench. I like to experiment quite a bit and through my hip surgery and recovery time I have enjoyed every fly tutorial. I could never repay you for helping me through this last year. So cheers with a fresh cup of coffee, wishing you all the best my friend.

we'll have to disagree - one of the best books you can have. It is not like the fancy-schmantzy books we're accustomed to, that is true. And Herter was a real character, But the book is filled with info every angler should know. You did a great job, and the coffee mug is awesome

Jim!! I am proud. :-) We just got back from the three-day weekend at the farm. No fishing as the mornings were in the low 20s and I'm not that dedicated. Watching movies beside the wood burning stove was a nice relaxing weekend though. Getting ready for late March though. I've got to sit down and figure out the best campground. Will let you know soonest. Hope ya'll are doing well!
Thanks Matt. I'm going to look for that Herter's book. I have a collection of pre-war tying tools and materials. Probably should get a book to go with the collection! Nice coffee Mugs!

I think you'd like this book! Mine is actually a 7th printing of it, so not an original 1941, but probably printed in the 60s. I'm thinking of grabbing another copy as the color plates in mine are a little worn out and I'd like to get a spare copy that I could cut the pages out and frame some of them. They're small pages, but really pretty cool looking.
Good morning Matt. Coffee on the desert while watching a streamer video, life is good. Those old streamers are fun to tie. Not sure if they’ll be fished or not but they look nice. Well at least the ones that you and a few others I’ve seen tie. Mine… well let’s just say they are a “fishable fly”. Take care Matt and have a great week.

I actually really like Streamers. When you come up with an old fly tying book I always search the title with pdf at the end. And nine times out of ten somewhere there is a free pdf. So I get to read a cool book from back in the day for free.
@SavageFlies

Yes! I do that too Ricky!! But when it looks like a cool one that I might actually want a hard copy, I'll search used on Amazon or Ebay. Sometimes Abe Books has some hard-to-find ones as well. One other way to find cool books is to look in the back of a modern book, like any of Mike Valla's, and he might have hundreds of books in his bibliography. I've found several lesser known books that way. :-)
I would love to drink a cup of coffee with Matt

Great coffee mugs
i drink lots of coffee while tying some flies. i think that fly looked better with the longer tail
G’morning Matt. I haven’t heard of this streamer before, so it’s not forgotten by me and I’d love a cup of coffee from one of those nice mugs. Can’t wait to win them! C u next video.
My name is Joe, and I drink too much coffee But I can't watch enough streamer videos. Good find Matt. Yes, sort of Alexander-ish. Yellow dyed grizzly for the Panther's body hackle and some orange fibers for the tail and the same for a throat would make a good perch imitation. One I like even more is the Frenzy. Tied as a wet fly, like McPhail did, it's a good perch fry imitation. He has a good technique for tying the peacock sword wing too. Thanks Matt!
@SavageFlies

OMG, the Frenzy is a great looking fly- and a great name! I just searched and see Davie's video. From 8 years ago. Now I'm going to have to watch it. Just got back from a long weekend at the farm. No fishing- morning temps in the low 20s. I'm getting too old to freeze my tail off not catching anything. I can not catch anything from my couch beside the wood stove. :-)
