So true. Not only did folks dress appropriately for travel they dressed appropriately for any given occasion from shopping to going out to dinner to going to a party or dance. Then there was the human touch to customer service (a lost art) that we don't get at do it yourself kiosks or at gas stations! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼

I was in my 30s before I ever flew but I remember going to pick up family/friends. While we waited we would either watch the plane pull up to the terminal or sit in one of the TV chairs, drop a quarter in the slot for 30 minutes of TV. I remember when you could go watch the plane take off and land from a nearby road. Take a lady or gentleman **UMM** friend and talk and smooch. Just glad we were able to do all these things back when. Wonderful content. You always give me a lump in my throat and sometimes a tear in my eye.

Night-time First Class was the same price as Daytime Coach. My Grandfather only flew at night for business travel; his company never complained.

I still have a set of Braniff metal cutlery that my dad must have "forgotten" to return.

I am thankful to have lived through classic air travel from childhood through the first few years of my career. Travel now would have been considered intrusive to obscene back then. Plus, on long trips you received real meals. Sorry, guess I've arrived to the age of reflection. If I still smoked, I'd probably light up now.

My first "real" flight was a 9 hour flight to Hawaii out of Chicago tonsee a football game in the late 90s. I went with a buddy of mine and it was quite an adventure. He snuck a bottle of Jim Beam on and we got pretty "rotted" on the way out. The flight attendants knew it as they saw us pouring the Beam into our Coke. They did care and kind of got a kick out of us goofing around as we passed the time. They even gave a free beer. Fast forward about 10 years and I'm on my way back from Hawaii. I forgot I had some locally made salsa in my carry-on. Next thing I know, they are going through my things because I had a jar of something liquid! I don't miss the smoke that was so common everywhere you went back then. But that evolution is an episode unto itself!

FUN look at travel back then. I don’t remember smelling smoke. I do remember dressing up and boarding outside at Heathrow Airport. I carried a bright orange Samsonite train case with me. Missed you! Glad you are back!!!

Before they had terrorists they didn't need security. The square windows were a dangerous and the seals would give way a lot easier.

Ya nailed me with that 1968 picture of Piedmont at 3:30. I was 10 in 1968. 13 years later, in 1981, I was hired as an aircraft mechanic with Piedmont and indeed worked on that very aircraft. REALLY miss Piedmont but not the company we merged with in 1989! 🤮 A real pity.

Flying now certainly isn't what it was back in the days pictured in this video. If you're traveling anything other than first class, you're crammed into small seats next to poorly dressed people, some of whom look they just got out of bed and smell like they haven't showered. You have to arrive at the airport two hours before your flight so you can go through all of the TSA security and long lines, and then wait at the gate until they finally call your section, and stand in another line to board. If you are in first class, you'll get to board first, but then you have to watch everyone in the rest of the plane walk past you and hope they don't bang you with their oversized carry-on bags while they walk past. If I have a choice, I'd rather drive than fly today.

I was THRILLED when smoking was banned on flights. I suffered for years from second hand smoke.
