Disney should have a museum with all their vintage rides on display fully restored not rideable but just for nostalgia

So weird to think that I very likely rode in this very monorail back in the day...now it's sitting like an old ghost in the Nevada desert. If old machines could dream...it probably misses its days pulling into the Magic Kingdom station...

WOW! Great find! I remember when my family got to ride in the special cockpit seats when I was little. I don't think they let guests ride up there anymore for safety reasons though.

Those buttons on the outside of the monorail by the cab is what the cast members would push to open the doors at the station. The rule was that the driver was the only one who was supposed to open the doors after the train was "parked." The theory being that the train wouldn't move with the doors open because the driver had made the train safe before opening the doors. The doors were installed and weighted in such a way that they would swing open when unlatched so a cast member didn't have to come along and open the door all the way. However, they would have to come down the entire train on both sides to close the doors prior to departure, which significantly increased station time. That's why the next generation of trains after this generation had fully automated doors. Personally, I always preferred this generation of trains.

The train needed to be in stop to activate the door buttons on the exterior near the cab doors. With the M4, however, the train did not need to be actually at zero speed. If you came into a station and put the train in stop while still in motion and someone on the platform pressed the buttons to pop the doors, they would open.... Doors were spring loaded to open.

This is awesome, I love it! I rode the Mark IV at Disney and in Vegas.

Fun fact: There was a second one with this one but it was bought and used at Monster Jam World Finals.

wow, my last time in WDW in the 80s (1984) was using this type of bench seating as opposed to the current open space design I saw when I finally returned in 2007. might even have been this blue one, but I can't recall that much detail anymore. Ok, not that particular car, but the train possibly. The 1985 manufacture date is for that particular car, not the whole train. The rest of the coral train is a 1969 original. In the late 80s they added cars to each color to improve capacity, making 5 cars each, so the card you see in 7:01 is of the newly added car.

Coral was added with Monorail Lime to expand the fleet to twelve trains in the mid eighties.

I love that one of them ended up getting annihilated by monster trucks lol

i remember back in the 80s parts of a retired disneyland monorail were converted into a street legal vehicle that drove around southern california to commemorate the parks 35th anniversary. i was riding my bike down the street one day and it actually passed by me. it was very weird to see a monorail driving on a city street.

Really good place to preserve it in the desert ?..a bit spooky but awesome find..

There were 2. One sat in the desert, the other was bought by Monster Jam for world finals and crushed.

Amazing that they are still alive, albeit in a poor state. Meanwhile one original WDW Mark IV monorail car is preserved and privately owned.

I'm considering leasing I line in Minnesota this would be the experimental part of the rail

The wheels pictured are side guide tires, not the main load tires. Miss driving these trains! Miss working on these trains! Was the best time to work at WDW (87 - 2007)

back in 2000 I've ridden on one in Las Vegas from MGM to Balley.

The newer Disney World monorails are more like subway cars now, with polls for standing. So it's not a surprise that Disney retired it.

Everytime it goes up for sale they ask too much money. So, it rots.

My regret was I didn't have time to ride it in 2009. My 1st & only visit to Las Vegas. Vegas "always" rebuilds itself. It's not hung up on nostalgia. But, not to sure If Disney wanted it back as a museum piece or would even care If it were a museum piece. I'll bet Museum of Transport in Saint Louis wouldn't mind having it.

I’ll buy that monorail tag with info on it if u have it 😋. So sad to seem the monorails rotting away. I would have made it into something at my house 🤔

I’d love to take that control panel and make some mods to use it to control stuff in the house lol

The manual part a cast member in the stations would need to slam each door closed - and a green light on the side near the cab would be red/yellow/and Green lit to finally indicate the monorail was good to go. Disneyworld's last use of this version, I have never been on the current version. 1991 these were still running at Disneyworld-Epcot. -

How much did the private collector spend on it?

Ok im thinking this the monorail that was breaking wheels and was probally retired for same reason.. and they just ditched it?! Hmm INTERESTING... HOW IT GET FROM FLORDIA TOO CALIFORNIA?

I always figured that the cockpit would be a lot smaller than that, but I guess it makes sense for Disney to have a way to move around staff, VIP's, and people who they just don't want being seen somewhere away from the general public. IDK how long this guy has had this think in his yard, but I totally would have converted at least one of these cabins into a kickass club house (I'd leave some stuff in tact for history, but you only really need one shell of each type in tact to preserve it. Plus it would all probably be able to be kept in better shape if it was a thing I actually went into regularly instead of just winding up as a yard decoration lol.

It was a front yard decoration for years. The husband and wife enjoyed it until they decided to sell it. It's in California now at a metal shop warehouse awaiting to be restored hopefully. Only the front car is left. I'll be doing a video on it soon.
