I have been forging for a few years and had a question on tongs. Have you ever seen a set of slip joint tongs, and do you feel that it would be a good design or a poor design? Great videos and thankyou for your channel. God bless you and your family.

Great! I just ordered a forge online and first thing I'm learning to make are tongs from blanks I bought. I might try this from scratch with flatstock after I practice on my "assembly required" set of 5 tongs. Am I being too ambitious?

New smith here... curious about tong material... when I see smiths on youtube forge tongs, the steel moves so much better than when I am at the forge... you guys using mild steel? The only free steel I can get is high carbon and am trying to figure out if I just need to get it hotter, hit it harder, or maybe lawn mower blades and suspension springs are legit that much harder to forge... thanks in advance!!

mylar hyrule high carbon steel is a bitch to move. If you’re looking for beginner tings stick with mild steel. Once you learn how to properly and efficiently draw out material then consider something like spring steel for tongs.

Roy's Blacksmith Rivets playlist (kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYtr16Oso7rfkZs.html) shows how he made his rivet block & rivet set. When you can't buy exactly what you want/need, make it yourself! Which is something the blacksmith of old was well known for.

Did I miss something. Suddenly you shov a finished tong. But not how you made it. Then one you already startet on. Me being a novice that's not ideal. Not meant as an insult.
