Forging Damascus - Explosion Pattern!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video we'll be forging damascus explosion pattern! This is my first attempt at forging mosaic damascus and it turns out pretty well. I've taken alternating layers of 1095 and 15N20 steels and manipulated them into an explosion/star pattern repeated across the bar. It should be a great billet for knife making! What blade should I forge with with damascus steel? Leave suggestions in the comments!

You're really going back in the video library! This one went well, but had I done a stack other than just alternating 10xx/15n20, it would have been more impressive. Live and learn! Thanks for watching, Darrell.

I like that trick with the whiteout under the tiles so they don't stick when forge welding. Haven't seen that one before. Cool trick. Awesome pattern. Thx

Hey tyrell looks amazing, I’ve been getting into mosaic damascus too, and I feel like explosion pattern is at the upper end of the difficulty spectrum but you pulled it off flawlessly, great job! Also thank you for disclosing what the steel soup is that you dip your billet in right before it goes in the forge to be welded, I’ve seen smiths use it but very few say what the mixture is, always happy when I learn a trick to help me along with my own passion... you should turn that bar into a knife with a wide surface like a chopper, broadsword, or dagger to show off that pattern, can’t wait to see what you do with it!

It’s not that hard. It’s only when it’s cold you can’t tell. When you start pressing it, you’ll see the layers in the scale that forms. Sometime I grind a little marker in the handle so I know which way is up. Thanks for asking. 👍
