it was only $14 to send all that chain, i work on forklifts for a living so all that chain is new cut offs. can't wait to see what you do with it. the other piece is part of a cutting blade for an excavator. and i love the skull, very cool

Hey, if you have any more of that cut off, and want to send some to a poor old timer in Ohio, let me know and I will provide you with my address. I can definitely afford the postage, but that's about all I can do. Sorry, but I am retired and living on a very fixed income.

Not really sure. Hadn't thought about that. I do have some excellent walnut 12" x 2" square blanks and a couple of cherry of the same dimension. Will have to think about it.Thanks for the quick response.

That came out really well. I thought it would distort more, even under the press. I've often wondered if it was possible to achieve something similar by taking a stacked layer billet and grinding a simple outline into the face of the billet with a rotary tool and then pressing it flat. I got the idea watching an old video on raindrop pattern damascus. Might be something neat to try out one day. I can't wait to see what that forklift chain looks like welded up 😎

Commin back with a BANG! Lol .. What a cool project Tim! I'm glad you picked up some good 1084 and iron powders since your last canister experiments using grinder dust 😉👍. I think it turned out great, especially for a first try. I think with at least one of the halves, you should draw it out a bit more and do at least one, 2x2 square stack (4 skulls) of the skulls before creating the actually billet via ferry flip or accordion cut etc. I think it'll look cool, and I personally think 'most' canister image patterns look better when they are a bit smaller with more of them, i.e. in mosaic. But either way great job! I also loved how you used the shotgun barrel for the eyes, such a cool idea. I'm not sure if you have ever seen or heard of him/them but you should check out Master Smith, Don Hanson III and his "Scary Tac" line of folders. He uses mosaic Damascus for the bolsters in which he incorporates skulls, bats, spiders and other random shapes. You might pick up some neat ideas. Here is a link to his webpage gallery showing those: www.sunfishforge.com/hansontactgallery.html Anyway, It's really great to see you back at it again and doing well. Continue to heel up well and smoothly. I hope to hear from ya soon and chat more frequently brother, feels like it's been quite a while. Also hope all has been well with you and yours. Take care for now :)
