Forging a Basket Twist S Hook // Blacksmith Projects to Sell
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this vid, I show you forging a basket twist s hook. This type of s hook would make a nice additional to your blacksmith projects to sell locally or in an online store. This is one of those more advanced blacksmithing projects, but it is a lot of fun to make!
You can use this blacksmith basket twist technique on other projects. An example is a basket twist handle. A metal basket twist makes an attractive decorative detail to your ironwork! Set yourself apart with a blacksmith basket twists in some of your projects!
Forging s hooks is alot of fun. I show you how to make s hooks from start to finish in my s hook tutorials.
If you want to find more blacksmith projects to sell, make sure you check out my channel and playslists. There are a lot of terrific videos on how to make money as a blacksmith from everything from metal flowers to meat skewers and more. So if you're curious how to make money forging, make sure you check out all my terrific resources at my channel. I also have a lot of encouraging videos to make money as a blacksmith and to profit at blacksmithing for those who are new to the business of blacksmithing.
Thanks for watching our videos here at Christ Centered Ironworks. I hope you enjoyed this video on forging s hooks, and I"d love to hear your thoughts on this video!

Thanks. Perhaps best remove this one then; there's no need to keep it around, and it will just annoy the heck out of weird ones like me who insist on watching the video before reading the comments, rather than the more logical other way around. ;)

It's a pleasure to watch " blacksmithing " video that is not knives, or Damascus steel, or power hammered. I know they have their place, but not everyone has the skill set or shop to do those things. Some of us like to see the kind of projects that you are doing, please keep up the good work, and thanks.

Hi Jim, I'm glad you like my channel. I really enjoy doing a diversity of things, and it shows a lot in my work. I suppose I don't have a set "style" like some blacksmiths do, but it works for me :) Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos and comment. God bless and have a great day.

Skill? For blades? Compared to this? I find this sort of stuff harder than blades. Sure, once you see how it's done, it's not all that difficult. But coming up with designs, and then a way to convince a hot piece of iron to shape itself according to said design... Calculating how much material you need for a particular part you're going to draw out or upset, ... Compared to that, hammering out a mostly 2-d shape and refining on the belt grinder (or angle grinder if that's your thing) is child's play.
I really like this video and will be watching more of them
Very nice! I like how the center bar stayed straight after the basket was formed. Thanks for the video...

+shadowcastre yeah I think it's kind of a neat effect for sure I also believe this adds a bit of rigidity to the hook. Thank you for watching
This is going to be my project Monday afternoon. Can't wait
Beautiful work Roy. Thanks for that.
Great job!
Thank you, I learned a good amount of helpful information on making a twist.
Nice job!
Beautiful work, really enjoyed your video.
Roy, THANKS SO MUCH!!! It occurred to me that although I've made basket twists before, it never occurred to me that the obvious next action would be to make the twist part of the structural element of the project. If you ever decide you'd like to teach face to face....Let me know .

+Jack Dawg Yep looks pretty good now after you get all that fire scale off of it. The thumbnail is the finished piece :-) thanks for taking the time to watch God bless
I generally skip drawing out then ends until the basket is to my liking. Keeping them square-ish helps with the twist and counting turns. I also cool out the ends so that they don’t deform. Try mounting your twists vertically and giving the top end a few taps after the back twist opens it. It helps to give it the girth you want.
don't have a flux spoon? you need to make one lol. it's funny how just a week ago I was thinking about putting a basket twist in a hook and here is a video of how to do it. are you a mind reader lol. happy 4th.

Im not mastered forge welding yet. Can i just weld out the ends completely and then forge and makes this hook ? Look realy nice
Very nice. I may have missed something, could you tell us a bit about how you were heating your workpiece for the forge welds? From your description it sounded like you were using an acetylene torch.
Wow, what a great project! Im just starting into the blacksmith craft and this is a great starter project for me to try. Thank you for the video, I subscribed, and keep up the good work! Also, do you have a facebook or website?

Roy, Not sure what all the voice-over audio was saying because you were talking in the video and on the voice-over simultaneously. Thanks for the video all the same.

+Steve Olan thank you very much for your comment I know about the audio this particular video I forgot to edit out my original commentary for the voice over instead. So my wife added captions to help with the understanding of what I was saying. I'm continuing to work on my videos and make them better all the time.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to make an adjustment to this video. I appreciate you letting me know. Have a blessed day!
Hey I love your work and I would Blacksmith too and I would love to do something like that but may I ask what was your design or the way you welded the ends
Times sure have changed since then. Lol
Noticed you are using a one sided tool for twisting. I'm just learning right now and lots of other use 2 sided tools for twisting. May i ask why you use a single sided tool for twisting? Others have mentioned you wanted two sided for the evenness of the twist and potentially saves you from extra random bends. Would you suggest a newer person to use a single or double ended tool for twisting?
“8 inches of rod?!” What kind of smut operation you running here?? 😂
Que es el pilvo que le hechas amigo???

i was just curious where you were located? Keep up the good work and GOD BLESS.
You have two channels of audio overlapping. Hard to understand.

There is a reason voice over is done after the recording. ;) Quality recording value aside, the real reason is you can do the video without distraction. Then you have time to think over how to teach. Enjoy your videos. Best wishes.

The audio on this recording it terrible. You have multiple audio file overlaping each other

There is 1100+ more videos on the channel with plenty of work and instruction.some people think they have all the information they need to make a project like this by just observing and this is incorrect. The very fact that you have clicked on a how to video in the first place is to learn and hear instruction on how to make something that you can't currently make on your own volition.

@@ChristCenteredIronworks Oh I get that, however this happened to be the first thing I've seen of yours and I'd be afraid of hearing too much talk. I get you need to talk a bit, sadly we sort of get what you're doing already, and I dare say most who are looking at you videos, are familiar with forging to a greater or lesser degree. The easy fix for me is to turn off the sound but that leaves a lot of dead air with no action as you are pontificating. Hence, my initial post. Good luck. Mind you, there are many who don't speak English and do videos, and never say a word in there videos. Just an occasional heat treat, or annealing spec.....and that's all that is required.
too many voices talking...
You need to do some serious editing! You had an outtake at the first, then when you proceeded to weld, that audio continued to run in the background after you applied flux and began to work the pieces. Don't expect subscribers as long as you're acting like an amateur.
