Forged Japanese Dog Head Hammer
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Making a Japanese style hammer by hand. First time I make an hammer or puch a hole this big, my new forging hammer it's made!
Big thanks to Nerd Inventor for providing suitable c40 (1040) steel for this project, check his videos here: kzread.info/dron/ElFm7ZS9bRLCN_87t0hMSA.html
Also thanks to my dear friends Dotti and Edo for helping to punch this hole!
Index of operation and materials:
0:15 Cut a jack hammer bit in two to forge into punch and drift
0:52 Both pieces are forged round and squished into ovals. The shorter piece (punch) is also forged to a point.

5:37 a rebar piece is welded as handle
6:12 Forge semi-square
6:37 Mark hole position
7:00 Punch the hole
7:45 Drift to size
8:00 Complete forging process by rounding edges and squaring everything up
8:30 Annehaling with coke forge: heat to critical and let cool slowly with the forge
8:56 Grind faces of the hammer heat with belt grinder

Black Beard Projects first off great video as usual. I was amazed at how you colored the steel. Also what’s the use for a dog head vs a traditional style?

Love that you do this, many such channels don't. As a suggestion, check out primitive technology's approach if unfamiliar: He also never speaks in his videos and uses the captions feature to describe what he's doing and when. Can be toggled of course and if on is right in the video so people can see it when fullscreen or otherwise watching rather than having to go to the description. Thanks regardless, LOVED this video!!!!

Ahah! Thanks brother!! We did as well, punching was no joke! But also rewarding :)
Congratulations on your first hammer! I enjoyed the process, especially the hot drift tempering. Thank you, as always!
What I love most is the simple handle. Makes it look so authentic.
Gorgeous! That tempering technique is awesome, never seen that before. Oxidation colors are so cool.
Wow, wonderfully done! My wrist just throbs at the amount of torque using one of those must have required...
Thank you for the detailed time-stamp in your videos and for sharing your skills. It's incredibly helpful.
That's is some good steel. Air Hammer bits. Are design to take shock loading and abuse. Good choice in material.
what a fantastic bonk instrument!
Very nice sir, I especially like the tempering of the back of the hammer into a beautiful blue. Should last you a lifetime.

Crazy to watch the quenching oil level rise from expansion as it heats up.
Great hammer. One of a kind piece of working art.
That was great work. One of my friends said that it was not great so I told him he was wrong as it was great! Great hammer!

I was confused how u got 3 hands for this project but then realized u weren't alone this time
Nice video
È ormai un anno che guardo i vostri video e solo oggi ho realizzato che siete italiani🇮🇹
いい仕事です。
Wow 😮
Nice touch keeping the tempering colors ^.^, if you want to keep the temper on it the way it is, you could dip the hammer's striking surface(s) in water to keep them cool during prolonged use... I'm pretty sure that you already know that though. :)
Bel progetto BBP!

Please buy a power hammer, it is making me worn out just watching you. Love your results!
Siiiiii c’è l’abbiamo fattaaaa 😂
Güzel, dekoratif amaçla da evimde görmek hoş olurdu.
So how does it perform compared to a regular hammer and what are the pros and cons. Thanks
Watching this on 2x speed is wild
hello i looked the process but didn't understood when and how did you make the hammer being like blue?
Better than asmr
Nice Hammer. Looks good man .In the Store you would pay a Fortune for a Hammer when u can make your own😀
bello
ок 👍👍👍
please tell me, how is this type of hammer better than a simple(normal) one?
ive got a piece of metal exactly like that, it is S 5. i am still trying to figure out what to do with it
Wouldn't using the jack hammer bit steel also work for hammers?
So what exactly is a dog's head hammer used for?
0:37 Thanks 😊
