I love that when a blade breaks, instead of being arrogant, fellow contestants are respectful and the judges give real advice on how to improve their smithing. Any other reality show about peoples talents would get ridiculed, possibly laughed at, and get 0 constructive criticism.

to be fair it's also probably not a good idea to laugh at the guy who has the other guy's sword right behind him.

i love how every time Doug says "Keal" in the subtitles its in all caps. it made me laugh so hard

@@michettk2125 keep in mind that people like these are craftsmen, you made something with your own 2 hands and seeing someone potentially dealing damage to said thing(even if unintentional) makes your heart sink... also i remember that one episode with the wierd multi-pronged spear from japan and one of the contestants was a woman, and she was giddy about it(hers had an octopus theme)... she ended up winning...

This is why you should be friends with a blade smith because there might be a zombie apocalypse and having a blade smith as a friend would be really helpful

It's one of my favorite exotic weapons. I hope to own one some day! 😁 It is weird though that they built it like a chopping sword instead of the large dagger it is. Why were all three tests about chopping and slicing?!

This show is awesome. It's the spiritual successor to Deadliest Warrrior.

I would bet that “the bad man” is his inner critic who tells him that he’s horrible and worthless, I dont think the bad man tells him to hurt others, I think the bad man tells him to hurt himself

I love how humble yet confident (but not pretentious) most of the participants are, so skilled yet humble is great to see

Fun fact about Gladiators: most of the weapons and armor they used was designed to be impractical, to impede any potential revolts. Bonus fun fact: The Egyptian Kopesh was the first true sword.

Just imagine how it feels that you spend days working on a project and someone Saying "it's not good enough".

It was common in classical antiquity, not the middle ages.

But it was also inaccurate. The roman fencing had no slashing involved, gladius was created with the sole purpose of piercing and the sides of the blade were mostly used during defence, which means that only the point of the blade could harm the body while the sides had no cutting edge. The main reasons were: 1- Roman legionnaires always fought in formations, so rarely there were 1 vs 1 involved on the battlefield 2- All legionnaires were equiped with squared tower shields, which were heavy and large, so slashing with that was pretty complicated 3- The roman army philosophy was that wounding an enemy with a slash was pointless, cause he would retreat from the battlefield, get medifications, stitches and then on the next day, he would have been ready to fight again. By piercing through an enemy, you're creating a deep wound, possibly damaging some organs, in that case, 3 possible scenarios: 1st the enemy dies on the spot 2nd the enemy dies in his camp due to infection, blood loss or organ failure 3rd the enemy won't return to the battlefield before many many days due to his severe injury, which means, one less enemy to face

I love watching this show weekdays on the tv, by far my favorite show

Doug has the best job ever. He tests blades on realistic dummies. Who wouldn't want to do that?

The part i love about this show is just doug saying "It will kEaL."

I remember the first time I saw the episode: the Khopesh that won; it looked like the guy just drew a perfect khopesh and willed it to life! I have rarely seen a weapon made to this level of perfection!

It will keel. Love that line.

Please do a competition where the smiths make kamas (if not done so already), I've used them before and they are fun to use.

I like Ben, he's such an awesome bladesmith. His whole life changed because of the Forged. After he won the champions event with that Scottish Claymore. He was asked to become a judge. He quit his job as an engineer at cal tech and moved to Richmond, Virginia.

Sucks that young man's atilla sword broke cause he would've took it, i honestly saw the old dudes handle and was like uuuh that makes no sense ergonomicly lol its like asking hey sword fly out my hand

The scissor seems to be something that would benefit from a somewhat triangular shape that exaggerates the tip for punching.
