"Forward heavy" : oh no! "Other blade broke" : oh yes!
@hororo4053

Forward heavy isn't necessarily bad. For choppers you want a certain degree of forward heaviness because the right amount will guide both the strike and the recovery of your blade. Ofc too forward heavy will make it unwieldable. But you're trying to hit that sweet spot. Forward heavy is different from just heavy.

This exact machete style was wielded by the edo soldiers of the benin Empire in what is now known as Edo state Nigeria. It is still used as ceremonial sword used and held by the person that stands before the Oba(king). The Dahomey machete was a little bit different in the back, most were more round at the back end.

It's a lot more satisfying to see the competitors weapon tested even after the first one is broken to make sure that it won't fail as well.

He’ve got his style now and I am glad that
if that blade didn't break, adam probably would have lost because it was too heavy
His blade is one of the nicest I've seen on the show, there's no coincidences. He had to remake the machete
One thing for sure I would love to see an episode where the bladesmiths make a weapon that the people who lived in the Amazon rainforest use to hunt food and that weapon is the blowgun and its a long narrow tube that has projectiles like darts, seeds and clay pellets while other people would dip the tip of a dart into poison and today the blowgun are used with tranquilizer darts to capture wildlife or to stun caged dangerous animals and the blowgun is made from hardwoods and they are used in sports.
If your a fan of the legendary Amazons I suggest you read "Last of the Amazons" by Stephen Pressfield, some cool weapons I would love to see is the double bladed Pelecuse Axe, the discus (a stone weight surrounded by an iron blade ring, gripped by the fingers from the top and bodily spun and thrown) as seen in the Olympics, a 10lb bladed discus will shatter a shield and the wielders arm, also the horseback javelin long as a tent pole. Cool stuff
If you're ever on FinF, DON'T use Damascus. Use good, strong spring or tool steel and spend your time on the important things, like heat treating.
New host, please learn from the old host. Shaking hands is important.

If you know your materials nothing can beat a combination of cowhide and wood ...
"That damascus pattern is going to help me with the judges' decision". Spoiler alert: no, it's not. I have a lot of respect for these smiths hand forging blades, especially the part-time ones--it's a passion for them. I just wish they could have read more about what makes a good sword. Being Pattern-welded is not in the list of criteria. What Forged in Fire doesn't explicitly tell you, and a lot of viewers or even professional knifesmiths (they are not swordsmith) fail to understand is: proper heat treatment, and more importantly good HANDLING characteristics weigh maybe a thousand times more than some crudely formed "damascus" pattern.

@FortuneFavoursTheBold
3 жыл бұрын
@@sethharrington305 "Damascus pattern" is not fit and finish. How sound the hilt components are constructed, how ergonomic they are, are part of the consideration of fit & finish. Some knifemakers think pattern weld equals good fit & finish, well it's because they have no idea what swords are, and what is important to swords' fit and finish. You can't blame them, these knifemakers (obviously not all of them, some among them are actual sword makers and sword collectors) haven't seen or handled a sword before.
