I just finished replacing the ball joints on my Winnebago Outlook which sits on the Ford E-450 chassis. Your excellent videos didn't miss a step or piece of important information. I bought a couple of tools at HF and borrowed everything else at AZ. The truck shop that told me I needed new balls quoted $1,000 for the job. I spent about $150 for Moog parts & supplies, another $300 for a 12 ton jack, jack stands, some sockets, a $49 HF uggadugga and some other odds & ends. The bonus is I get to keep all that stuff and I still saved 500 bucks. Thank you!

I just did one side of a e 350. I didn’t remover the brake rotor Left everything on except the brake calipers and pads. Just laid the assembly down on the lug bolts face down and used them to hold my piece upright. Worked out good. Used a jack to get it back up into place. Thanks for the video definitely saved me a trip to the mechanic. I pretty much try to do everything but never did ball joints till today. Stocked I got it done. Although I busted a seal on one. Had the wrong size piece to pull it up with. I will keep it greased up and a eye on it Other side tomorrow

Great vid! Quick shortcut: don't take the rotor off. And as a base, put the whole thing bolts down into you rim and put a couple bolts on to keep it solid.

I did this same work as well as axle results on a 2005 ford F450 about 6 months ago but forgot to record it at that time glad somebody else made a video on these spindles

Nice video.. The 1999 + FORD F250 Super Duty with RWD has the same set up and no ABS tone ring or sensor ... as the ABS sensor is on the rear differential only in "99"... I did my ball joints today . Your video helped out alot .. My suggestion to anyone else is do not skimp on buying a good ball joint service kit .. with correct cup sizes to do the job ..

nice work over ther glen! it is a job the bootless ive got I thought I got shorted a boot on the seal installer for the 4x4 I don't have or the shop even it is a must have to set depth and I think otc is the only one who makes it its pricy

Great idea with the spool table there. I used to have a HUGE one back when I was a kid - I built a fort around it, and used it as a table. Had a wood stove in there too, lol. As I entered my teens, it became an institute of debauchery, LOL! Good times! Wow did I go off track there ... 🥴 You cracked me up when everything fell a 2nd time from the gun being in reverse. I'll spend 5 straight minutes swearing whenever that happens, LOL! That's the one thing I hate about the IR impact guns. I think I have the exact same one you have, except I installed a protective cover over the body. Anyway, those push button direction changers always either walk out on their own (and you have no power), or I hit the wrong one because I have the gun oriented in a different way. Not very intuitive. Or I just forget altogether what direction the gun is in. I need a big "ON" and "OFF" label to look at, lol! 1st world problems! 😁 I'd imagine mine probably needs a rebuild anyway, since I bought it 10 years ago, maybe even longer. The buttons move alot easier than I remember when the unit was new. Good job, brother Glen! Those 1-tons sure make us earn our money! 👍🍻

The 1 tons are a lot of fun, plus they make ya sweat. Think about that for a second. haha😂 I bought my IR air gun about 15 years ago. It's worked well but I'm really considering a 1/2" cordless battery impact now. They are expensive but convenient. I graduated from the same school you did, I of D. Ahhhh yes those were fun times. @@ozzstars_cars - Same here, man! My buddies and I still laugh about those days and the stuff we did. 😁 Yeah, those cordless ones are definitely the way to go. I got a small 3/8" drive Makita (if I remember right ... might be Bosch) for Christmas '18 - thing comes in handy for doing stuff around the house far from the air hose or wall outlets. I feel like I just got my pneumatic tools, lol - 19 years ago. Hate to have to invest all over again. I will eventually, but not right now. It's great not having an air hose in your way. I might have to do a video on the spindles on the 2005 ford f450 because the spindles your working on are 2x4 and the spindles I did were 4x4 spindles with hub locks

Nice work man, you should check out the Dewalt 1/2” like Eric O has. I’ve had that delwalt gun for a while it’s a beast it knocks those ball joints off in 2 secs. I made a video I’ll find it.

The DeWalt definitely has a big set of balls. Gotta to get the job done. I want it but my IR still works so good, it's just the hose that's a pain. 😄

They get beat up constantly,I doubt the ones he took out were original. I have a similar van and seem to need ball joints every 3 or so years no matter what brand I use.

Years ago it was all solid king pins. This van has 135K miles on it. Most Ford trucks/vans by 100K miles need front end work, including the steering components. The OEM joints do not have grease fittings. What were they thinking? ughhh

The spacers for those presses should be magnetic so that you didn't have to try and hold 20 pieces all at once. This job already takes 3 hands to hold the parts. Nice work though man. Bet that beast handles like one of the Vette's now (yeah right).

The snap on ball joint press the adapters lock together, but they're almost $1k new. Holding them is not that bad

These spindles can be a pain even for the 350 and bigger trucks on the ball joints

you were right there... always clean and re-grease those caliper slide pins.....a #1 place for failure and then your buying a whole new caliper and bracket cause, parts places don't want to sell just the bracket.... $150 for all of it's better for them...

What are torque specs for tie rod end and brake caliper bolts?

So you had to pry it out of the axle with a pickle fork, do you not have to press it back into the axle after you put the spindle back on? Really nice video btw!

@@ozzstars_cars okay you used a pickle fork to pry the ball joint out of the axle bore that the ball joint goes into. When you put it all back together do you have to press it back into that hole in the axle? I'm almost done with this repair and I got to thinking after I noticed a gap between the ball joint boot and axle.

@@ozzstars_cars okay at 19:30 in your video you still have a gap after you were done tightening and I think I figured out my gripe. The boots on the moogs we are using are different from the stock ones. It doesn't come as far up on the ball joint so it creates a gap.

Ozzstar's Cars - on a serious note, I only take my Ford work vans back to the Factory for service. Not my local dealer, back to the actual factory that assembled the Van. because ya know.... they did such a good job the first time.....using only the highest quality lowest priced parts available at the time. I definitely would NOT trust my local mechanic who was smart enough to quit working at the Ford dealership for $12 an hour and then built up his own shop and works for himself, that guy’s an idiot
