FORD TRACTOR COLD START, MODIFICATIONS MOAN

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A good ol' cold start video with the Ford TW. Who doesn't like them? Also i talk about LED lights and modifications that the purists hate.

Very few tractors that earned a living stayed completely standard. I added various brackets and carriers to the TW to make it more useable.

We used to have to start 3 - 4 tractors every morning. So what I found was that I could put two of them into the cowshed, and that would keep them really warm. One of my hobbies is gliding, and one day I flew over 200 cows waiting in a yard for milking. The warmth created a thermal, which I could use to gain a few hundred feet , slowly, but better than nothing. My other trick was to have a wheelbarrow with two spare batteries, and jump-leads, as my start-cart for the loader and feeder tractors. . . . . .

The only thing getting warm on that cold start was the starter motor, didn't Ford believe in glow plugs or was it so that farmers kept buying starter motors. Lovely sound though cheers George hope the flooding isn't too bad in your area.

Lovely mate, memories of no pre heat and starter motor struggles. The pipe sounds ok pal. Lol at ya piddle take moments, Kurt is rubbing off onto ya 😂😂. The older tractors didn’t really get blessed with much in the way of forward lighting as I recall. The first with any slight illumination was on the MF 2000 series.

My take on it is that actual ownership aside, T-Dub is an important part of the fleet on the farm primarily and your toy second, if you want to make it safer, more convenient and better to use then you go for it! I'd much rather see a good straight honest T-Dub that's up to a day's and night's hard work on land and on the road than an over restored machine that only, if ever, gets a gentle road run and ends up with polished barrels through want of a workout. Funny how these naysayers all speak the same too! Thanks for the entertainment again George.

Agree with you George on the lighting..yes it's a old machine and you have people who think they should be keeped original but it's still a working machine and you need to move with the times, I have a 1973 David Brown and I've fitted led lights to it because they are 100% better than the old halogen ones.. like you are doing, I have fitted them to blend in with the machine so they don't look out of place... Another benefit with led lights is.. they don't draw as much power as halogen lights so they will be better for the electric system...

George, I know very little about LED lights but will that pair of lights your talking about installing at the front provide a dip beam and a main beam or not? If not what are your plans to deal with this issue? I think the toolbox on the RH side of the engine would be best.

I always wondered how these pig eyes could give real guidance in the dark to any driver, as the top cabin lights have to be out on official roads. But then, they look cool on the TW series, dont they? Keen to see what you are coming up with as an alternative, George. Love these Ford dinosaurs. Good to still see them in action. And a nice contrast to the modern JCB fleet, which must be a joy to drive and operate, in its own way.

I totally agree with you. If an old tractor is still doing it’s bit of work, then you should go safe in it and enjoy it rather then having all original. I mean those little things new bigger mirrors, better lights it just makes it safer. I mean what does it use yourself when you can’t see anything driving down the road and you have an accident for example right in the middle of harvest.

  • @Mr.M1STER

Yes, its all well and good for the collectors to say that things should be original and maybe it should for old tractors that sit in a shed year round but this one gets used so a tractor that gets used and sometimes in the dark needs good lights.
