Yeah that is definitely high mileage for a transmission so I would say give it a try and if it doesn't work, then no harm done. Just be sure to do a "change" and NOT a "flush". If the tranny fails, then maybe it's time to move on to a different car since transmission repairs exceed the value of a good used car.

@@nicholasscirollio913 There is a torque converter. It is not recommended to drain (aka flush) all of the ATF from and old car like this because it can do more harm than good. Just changing what comes out from the lower pan is ideal as show in the video. If you really wanted to drain out out the fluid from the torque converter, you have to disassemble the transmission.

If your worried about transmission slipping when you do a fluid change (not a flush) just add some Lucas transmission stop slip when your putting back the same amount of fluid you dumped. Just remember that the Lucas is about 24oz so leave out 24oz of transmission fluid to make it even. You never want to over fill your transmission and also it's recommended that you run the car a bit before you check the fluid levels because transmission fluid expands when it reaches optimal temperature.

Start off by checking basic things like transmission fluid levels using the dip stick and for any leaks under the car. Transmission fluid on this car should be bright red. Check for any hard shifts while driving. Also check for any strange noises when changing from drive to reverse and vice versa. If all is good, then maybe it's time to have it checked via OBD2. The manual doesn't provide much help on this. The transaxle light could mean many things. Ultimately you want to have it checked by a trusted mechanic.

A turned on check transmission light can be due to several things. If you think your transmission is good and shifts properly, try changing the transmission fluid as shown here first. Otherwise, the only way to know for sure is with a good OBD2 scan tool. Go to a trusted mechanic for them to tell you and hope that it isn't anything major. It has to be trusted mechanic though because they may want to sell you a full rebuild of the tranny!

Yes give this a try, it's routine maintenance. First while the engine is running, do a level check of the tranny fluid with the dipstick. It should be bright red. If you decide to change the tranny fluid, don't forget to the change the filter. Also, while you're at it, you can add Lucas Transmission Fix and see if that helps www.amazon.com/Lucas-LUC10009-Transmission-Fix-oz/dp/B000ARTZPO/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=lucas+transmission+slip&qid=1611427769&sr=8-1 If doing all that doesn't help, then you probably got worn clutches or something else internal, which is expensive to fix and not worth it imo.

    4 жыл бұрын

In this case with old hardware even with a torque wrench you might over tighten and strip the bolts or your torque wrench could fail (ask me how i know). These bolts are only about 9ft/lbs and are not really critical. As long as you pre soak the gasket and tighten in a criss cross pattern, should you be able to hand tighten and not have leaks. Hand tightening is not accurate but it's good enough for this specific application. If your bolts feel snug by hand, that should be about 9-15ft.

I understood him entirely. He meant snug them down firmly then go another half turn. I do that to every transmission I work on and I never have any leaks. But you should use a rubber pan gasket, the cork and paper gaskets suck. Believe me I know from experience, the paper and cork gaskets always leak regardless weather you torque to spec or not

It has a transmission dipstick on the driver's side back towards the firewall. Should be a yellow or red handle on it...or someone took it out and never put it back in, but it does in fact have a dipstick normally...probably someone lost it or whoever serviced it last never put it back in. Even my 08 Explorer has a dipstick, you just have to crawl under it and get 3rd degree burns trying to get the dipstick in and out since its right next to one of the catalytic converters.
