Ford RS200 "Pure Sound" Group B
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The RS 200 was Fords Group B challenger and also the last car on the Group B scene. Making its WRC debut on the 1986 Swedish rally where it finished in 3rd place.
The events of Portugal and Corsica led to Ford loosing interest in the rest of the season and they only entered two more rounds the Acropolis Rally where both cars were leading for a while and the RAC Rally.
The car did win the 1986 British Rally Championship with Mark Lovell at the wheel was also successfully campaigned in other European rallys.
The RS 200 has had somewhat of a revival thanks in part to the Dirt Rally games and Ken Block being a hugh fan of the car.

@fabaum22 They had only just started before the program was stopped. The following year they were due to have a 2.1 Ltrs engine something like 75-100 Kg less mass and again something like an extra 35mm front and 50mm rear extra suspension travel. As your probably aware, development was constant but no changes to the current car could be made for 12 monthes because of the once a year homoligation stipulation.

Lancia Delta and Peugeot 206 were technically better since they actually were on time for the spectacle
It’s so unfortunate and ironic that RS200’s crash in portugal was one of the reasons Group B was cancelled, and the RS200 Evo with a bigger engine has never competed in WRC
I dont know if anyone else agrees with this but this "era" was as awesome as it was because you could see the cars in action and buy something atleast somewhat close to it, where as now you got a awd yaris doing 0-60 in like 1.9 sec but when you go to buy it, you found out its fwd and has shit box for a chassis

99% of the spectators back then couldn't afford a Group B homologation street car. For example, the Audi Sport Quattro (164 were sold to the public between 84 and 86) went for 200 000 West German Marks. In 1984 $US that would be around 72 500. In 2021 money, it would be $US 190 500. It's current value today if you can find one for sale is around $US 580 000.
5:03 this is the most badass shot i had seen that Rs200 have the light aura
i'm italian but i think its the most beatiful GROUP B ever made
1.8 litre, 4 cylinder(straight 4), 444hp single turbocharged engine. And yet still crazy fast enough that one wrong move will wrap you around a tree. Group B was just on a whole nother level.
I remember seeing one of these in the LOMBARD RAC RALLY IN THE 80S AT NIGHT U HEARD MILES AWAY. B4 u saw it. Exhaust was glowing. Amazing
I go back and forth between the RS200 and the Escort Cosworth as my favorite rally cars that Ford ever produced. Astonishing cars.
I love watching classic rally car racing!
I would recognize a Cosworth engine a mile away, I can't really figure out what it is but they always stands out among other engines for their "angry" sound. Thanks for the footage Marvdogger, the RS200 truly was one of the best group B cars, that's sad they had to scrap the project so early...

It's not a Cosworth engine in the RS 200 it's a BDT 1800, and the 20 evolutions built had 2.1 BDT's built by Brian Hart. Peter Stevens, the designer built a Group S RS 200 and that has a Cosworth engine in it, I think it runs at Rally Legends in San Marino.

yeah because the stupid fucking spectators would run all over the tracks. not the car or driver or sports fault. all the moronic spectators with the IQ of a potato are what killed it. I remember hearing an interview with one of the group B drivers and he said you had to imagine all the spectators were trees because if you thought of them as people, you'd never be able to drive properly. I know i'm going to get flamed for this, but the series should have kept going. if the spectators wanted to be brain dead, utter dumbasses then let them get smeared all over the road.
Never seemed laggy at all, shame it never saw 2 seasons to progress.
I can't lie, some of these corners and turns looks like they're stages that are featured in Dirt rally 2.0 but idk how many of those stages were based off real stages
The only Group B car that doesn't look like ass.

My life goal is to have enough money to buy an rs200 and then go to Ford and try to work out some deal to either have them modify it with the planned changes for the next years car, or have them give me the plans for the cars updates and allow me to go get the work done.
To think this was the fastest car in group b and it only had a 4 cylinder engine is fucking crazy compared to mg and audi using 6 and 5 cylinders

theres so much soul in this video, in this car, you cant get that without a engine. i hate electric cars, and there is no way rally will become electric. i cant believe they have even made electric rally cars. if rally becomes electric i will give up on the sport. theres no soul in electric cars and rally is so much more then just driving fast in the woods.
That snow racing though…. What the heck are they using for tires?
