Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Did you know that the Ford Probe, was ALMOST a next generation mustang? Or that Mazda helped Ford, to mastermind the design of the Probe? Whether you answered yes or no, the Ford Probe and Probe GT, has a juicy history of pissing off Mustang fan boys, and thanks to Mimi Vanderholen, winning the hearts of 90's women and families across the US. Slated to compete with the Japanese domestic market cars of the time, and to compete in the Nascar dash series--it soon became clear, that this midsize passenger sedan, could keep up with the competition. So sit back, relax, and join James Pumphrey as he walks us through the tale of the failed Ford Mus... I mean, Ford Probe.

As a kid, my granddad had a 89 Ford Probe GT. It was cool, sleek and pretty quick. I used to sit in the passenger seat, while my granddad floored the car, spooling up the turbo and flying away. After a few years, the car was parked away, and pretty much only used as a 'holiday car'. Even tho no one cared about that old thing, I always thought it was the coolest car ever, and had to own it one day. At least to make sure it would never go to scrap. Then, on my 18th birthday my grandparents came to visit. I also just got my drivers license. As a gift, I got a set of keys, the keys to the Ford Probe. Right now, I'm restoring the car with my granddad, and still believe it's one of the coolest cars I have ever seen.

This same thing happened to me! My grandpa doesn’t drive anymore because he’s getting older and the last car he bought was a 1996 ford probe gt. He was going to donate it to a charity because it was only taking up space in his garage but I was turning 16 in a few months so he gave it to me and now I’m trying to figure out as much as I can about my first car so I can take care of it.

Unfortunately became a money pit due to the rarety of parts at the time. This for me was back in the early 2000s. Would love to re-own one and restore this or even the counterpart Mazda MX6 GT

The first car I ever bought was my brother's girlfriend's 1993 Ford Probe GT. I was 17, a junior in HS and that car was a life changer. I poured all my money and time into it. Upgrading, modifying, "tuning" I was truly a fan of the car. Mostly because it was all I could afford, but also because it was fun, quick, and just sporty enough to keep me out of too much trouble. I was such a fan, that around town I started doing a knock-off Biker's Wave to other Probe owners as they passed by. It took almost 2 years, but just before heading to college, I got my first wave back lol.

@@jamesloder8652 I will agree with you that every era has it's fair share of terrible design trends. However, I just don't see it in the Probe during it's entire lifespan. Toshi Saito created the 1st gen design, making it very similar to the modestly styled Japanese coupes that it was competing against in the American market. That sensibility carried over into the 2nd gen design by Mimi Vandermolen, even when Ford was trying to push their awful "ovaloid" aesthetic cues in the late 90's (ever seen a 98' Taurus dashboard? Ugh!). I guess what I meant to say rather than "90's looking" was the GOOD part of what charachterized 90's aesthetics. Sensible proportions and congruous lines, with only a bit of tasteful "rounding" of edges into smooth curves to make things look sleeker.

Back around 2000 when I was young and cycling to school in Jolly old England, there was a striking curvy car with a 2.5 V6 in an Azure blue that caught my eye every day. It said "24v" and "Probe" on the rear, and I was fascinated by it. The second generation Ford Probe was like nothing I was used to seeing on the road or driveways in my neighborhood. Most cars I saw were economy oriented four cylinders, but this was different. My mother drove a series of Austin/Rover Maestros which were boxy and boaty, underpowered and unremarkable, and I just couldn't help but see all of the differences between this low nosed, sleek car and the plucky but slow hatchbacks that met most of the family transport needs of the 90s. Obviously now I know that the probe was more of a GT car than a truly powerful, muscular, performance car, but that look really stuck with me. It's probably what helped me really love the looks of the Catfish Camaro. I was a petrol head already, always poised to turn any conversation to cars, but as a car that held the name "Probe" I did not dare mention it to my friends despite it being a significant landmark on my Monday to Friday life for four years, because of the inevitable comments teenage boys can't help but make. Shout out to the Ford Probe for being the most interesting Sunday driven vehicle I didn't discuss for twenty years. I never saw the car driven, but it was always there to catch my eye while the owner doubtless commuted in something bland and economy focused. Thank you Donut. My odd, secret fascination with a re-skinned Mazda that I couldn't forget can now be put to rest, and my desire to talk about it ended without fear of enduring countless butt jokes from people who missed the point.

I couldn't find any so I ended up with non adjustable ones for an lx. Turbo parts are rare and hard to find. I'm finally upgrading to a bigger turbo which, is a big project trying to make everything fit. Hopefully it will be back on the road in about a week. Got a 2.5" stainless exhaust currently, next up want to ditch the whole fickle variable intake in favour of ITB's, as well the ancient distributor based ignition system with instead coil packs, bigger injectors, and a walbro fuel pump. I forget what show it was maybe a month or so ago you had mentioned like "even if the guy got a Ford probe it's his car and he loves it" and I wrote a comment and I was like man I wish somebody to do something with the Mazstang. I was obsessed for years with the first and second gen I'm probably ownd 30 overtime and they've always been true to my heart. Wish you would have mentioned the jdm KLZE motor. And maybe the brother model from Japan the MX6. or the fact that the Ford ranger at the time basically had the same 2.2 motor just turn sideways I actually turboed one with Ford probe manifold and parts. I was hoping this show would have been at least an hour maybe.. maybe even 3 hours. But I understand I'm probably the only one that truly appreciates it. Thank you bro keep up the good work 👊. Pop-ups for life bro.... For liiiiifffffeee. My official first car, my father bought me in high school, was a '95 Silver Blue Mist Probe GT 5-speed. It came installed with A Borla exhaust, PRD STS, Eibach springs and front and rear strut tower braces. I loved that car. Unfortunately it got totaled, but that didn't stop me from finding another red 95 in Mass. taking the train up and driving it back down to VA. This one didn't have power windows or locks like my first. I had bought my totaled one back from the insurance company and used it as spare parts for second. Replacing the windows, locks, interior wiring harness, theater lighting module and exterior door keyhole lighting (yes, there was a small light that made the slot for the key to light up in some models) in my second one. That one received a KL-ZE swap, coilovers, beefier rear swaybar, Rafi Racing STS, SPEC clutch, Fidanza flywheel, Mazdaspeed motor/trans mounts. Loved that one too. Made my first longish trip from VA to SC for Myrtle Madness (not volleyball but for Probes, MX-6s, MX-3s & 626s) in it. Got a third black '95 that is pretty much stock. I got her 14 years ago with just over 4000 miles on her. She's now has over 40,000. I got an 06 WRX wagon the same year and drove the Subie mostly hence the low mileage. The stock exhaust on the second gen GT's had a pretty nice tone to them.

Here in Texas (and a few other states in the USA), there are exceptions which allow legal drinking alcoholic beverages under the age of 21. Individual exceptions vary from one state to the other. Some states allow active members of the military to drink at the age of 18 (typically on base). IIRC, this one does not apply to TX. Some states (including TX, last time I checked) allow parents or a spouse to serve alcohol to their children or younger spouse, with supervision. This means that if a 21-year-old marries an 18-year-old, the 21-year-old spouse can buy alcohol and serve it to their 18-year-old partner while both are at the same dinner table (the 21-year-old is supervising the 18-year-old). Similarly, parents can serve their teenage "children" alcohol while in their presence (supervision. Parents cannot legally serve kids alcohol and then leave the room). Some states allow small quantities of alcohol to be served to minors in religious ceremonies, such as Holy Communion (a.k.a. "The LORD's Supper", or "Holy Eucharist."). Interestingly, I read somewhere that this exception, albeit for older adults, was also an exception which applied to the US Space Program. Alcohol was forbidden on space flights, but at least one Astronaut was allowed to take wine with him into space in order for him to have Communion while he was in space. So, the "you have to be 21 years old in order to drink in the USA" is not quite as cut-and-dried as it may seem. Depending upon where you live in the USA, there are exceptions. When it comes to actually buying alcoholic beverages, unless you are 18+ on a military base in a state with the service member exception, however, you do have to be 21 to legally buy alcoholic beverages. I am not a Lawyer and this is not to be considered legal advice. Laws sometimes change also. Check the laws in the municipality, county, and state where you live.

My aunt had a probe, and the faulty automatic seatbelts saved her life. She was driving to work on ice covered roads, slid off the road into a ditch which made the car flip onto it's top before crashing into a rock embankment. The seatbelt emergency release was how she was able to climb out of the busted back hatch window. She even made the news lol. But it was an awesome car. Pretty comfortable on long trips too.

Back around 2000 I replaced my 87 Jetta with a 91 Cougar LS. I only had that car for a few years before I replaced it with a 99 Dakota sport 4x4, but to this day that Cougar has been my favorite vehicle to drive out of the 4 (technically 5, but I dont count an 84 Caviler that lasted a week, literally a week, before a connecting rod broke and punched a hole in the block) I have owned. That Cougar even though it was the 3.8L V-6 was just such a nice ride that it never felt like a chore to drive anywhere. Its trunk was massive, allowing me to keep a full size spare and a 2.5 ton jack, along with a ton of random crap. Even though it was RWD, it ran in bad weather up here in Connecticut very well (on all seasons). The back seat was this huge bench seat which combined with just how damned wide the car was, made for a nice bed on more than a few occasions. It even had lights on the sides of the nose that lit up when the turn signal was engaged, such a simple and easily overlooked feature, but in a place that doesnt have street light coverage on every inch of road, damned handy and also shows just how good the front visibility was. Not to mention the 4 wheel SLA suspension making the handling just sooo nice for such a big car. Eventually after a few years (think it was 2004) I sold the car to my mom for like $10 or something, so she could donate it to some govt program in exchange for a significant tax credit. I do miss that car, not only was it the 2nd car I ever really had for any length of time, it was just so nice to drive and I took it to so many events, parties, concerts and festivals. addendum: back in Nov 2019 I finally replaced the Dakota with a 2014 Nissan Frontier king cab 4x4. I doubt I will ever own another 2wd vehicle like a Cougar, but I never plan on getting and AWD vehicle, so I can always keep it in RWD, turn off traction control and have some fun on pavement. edit: just for a little context, I was born in 1980 and deliberately waited until I was 18 to get my license since I didnt want to deal with the crap (aka restrictions) that come with being a 16 or 17 year old driver in Ct. So I really learned to drive with the Jetta (combined with a summer in Cape Cod starting a couple of months after I first got my license lol) and thus the first car I had where I knew what I was doing through actual experience, was said Cougar.

@@CamaroAmx Yes that's why I said SVT was later renamed Shelby. Shelby did not do the Mustangs. They just used his name instead of SVT because most people know the name Shelby. Ford never really advertised the SVT team. So really most didn't know they existed. I think back in early 2000's they did like 2 or 3 SVT commercials they ran once or twice each during a few Nascar races. Never seen them again. Like Dodge people have heard of SRT. Chevy doesn't have one. Mercedes for a long time here in the USA most people hadn't heard of AMG but I think it has gotten a lil more well known in past 5-10 years or so. In Europe people know what AMG is.
