I agree that £40k is WAY out of reach for the vast majority - but to say that 'all (EVs are) equally out of reach for standard families' is possibly not such a clear cut case. I'm not saying the following are ideal figures - merely a like-for-like type comparison... Most people now buy a new car on some form of PCP / lease finance package. Just as examples of potentially suitable family SUV transport - the Skoda Karoq 1.5 TSi DSG SEL SUV on 3 years / 5,000 miles per year / £2k deposit is about £215pm The Kia e-Niro SUV on 3 years / 5000 miles per year / £2,300 deposit is £260pm = a difference of £45pm. As 'typical school-run' cars, around town the Karoq does about 35mpg - over 5000 miles at roughly £5.30 unleaded = £63 petrol cost pm On top of that, Road Tax for the Karoq is £515 over the 3 years, whereas the e-Niro is £0. Finally, service charges are also considerably less for EVs, simply as there are so few 'consumables' to replace. So, on a monthly cost basis, EVs do stack up.

@@jonathantaylor1998 Agreed, I had an Ioniq EV for 4 years, 100k miles. Expensive on a lease due to the mileage, but actual running costs, cheap as chips. It's just when I hear £40k and £60k as good value, I scratch my head in wonder. Couldn't justify the cost of them, and wouldn't want to. I must be getting old, I'm starting to say things like "my first house was cheaper than that" and it was 😁

@@jonathantaylor1998 it’s not even like the Mustang Mach E is that expensive to buy. Many people just compare the most expensive EV to the cheapest petrol car, when actually they buy the mid level models of both, which are much more similar

Really enjoy this review, Vicky always does a great review. I think this is going to be a very important car for Ford, they have done a really good job, it's not the best I get that but I think it's hit a sweet spot for many mid priced EV drivers with spec, style, comfort and practicality. Going to like seeing these on the roads and I dare say will be seeing alot of them.

Huge screen useful but intrusive. There should be a way to lower the screen when you don't need it.

I don't have an issue with it being an SUV, but they should not have thrown the Mustang name on it. I have the same feelings about the Dart name on the 2016 econo-box.

The front and rear is decent, the side profile with black roof floating design without door handles is aesthetically pleasing to look at. Everything this vehicle it does is very good, except the outstanding price/value proposition. Ford got this right.

Hi, I've just bought one from Perrys in Chesterfield. it comes on Monday. Got an ID4 at present. initial opinion is, its better made than the VW which is a surprise, and hopefully less software problems?

I'm not actually a fan of that big information screen, I imagine it could be too bright and too big when your driving during the night, apart from that .... I'm ordering one.

Does look a decent effort from Ford, although I think the BMS still needs some work to hit that 150kw charge rate for more then a couple of mins, as ever never trust a claimed rapid charge time.

Claimed time 10% to 80% is 45 minutes. Ford seems to have nailed that. Peak charging speed is not very useful, it's all about the average.

There will be an OTA update that will improve the charging curve and the infotainment features and response!

I didn't want to like your review but, I did. I'm a big traditional Mustang fan so when they diluted the name with something they consider an SUV I wasn't impressed. I think this looks like very good value for money and something I might like to own. Just wish they hadn't used the Mustang name. Thanks Vicky!

Now the Ford dealer has told the owner that some of the problems are now “unfixable.” The Details Vehicles recalled: Roof: 13,544 Mustang Mach-E EVs built between Feb. 24, 2020, and July 18, 2021. Windshield: 17,692 Ford Mustang Mach-E EVs built between Feb. 24, 2020, and July 18, 2021. The problem: The panoramic glass roof panel and/or windshield may not have been properly installed, risking leaking and even detachment. The fix: Dealerships will apply additional urethane adhesive, then reinstall the roof panel or windshield. The repair will be done free of charge. Apr 9, 2021

Take a look at, for example the "What Car" review. It gives advice on what tends to go wrong (diesel DPFs, dual-mass flywheel, manual transmissions) and discusses alternatives (e.g. Mondeo, Mazda 6, Passat, 3 Series)

It would be very helpful if not only the maximum charging power is mentioned, but also which charging curve the car has. If you look at the results of other testers here, this is a big problem with the Mustang, the charging performance collapses very quickly and also falls very low, so that very little is left of the theoretical maximum range in everyday life. The rest is a matter of taste, I don't like it optically and you have to get used to the operation, as in every EV.

Hardly anyone in the UK cares if it is called a Mustang, so long as the car is good to drive and own it will sell in spades. I bet the reviewer has never driven a Mustang before this one. I did, but it is not all it is claimed to be. American muscle cars are all brawn, no finesse, so they are not in truth missed by Europeans. Welcome to the new world of electric Mustang!

So many great alternatives to poorly built Teslas coming this year. I put my name in for a Ioniq 5 AWD. Hope they don't get too greedy with the pricing.

Only producing 50 000 units, so yes, few sales in UK with most sales going to Europe for compliance market.

£40K might seem 'cheap' vs i-Pace, EQC or E-tron but those cars are AWD and long range, so compare the long range AWD Mustang with them. At £60k the Mustang looks poor value compared with that competition as they are much more luxurious cars. Bottom line, Mustang is not an i-Pace/ECQ/E-tron competitor. In my opinion Mustang's competition is ID.4, Enyaq, Ioniq 5, Model Y and maybe E-niro / Kona.

Doh..! So sick of speed and horsepower that charges a car around corners at speed. Bonkers... we just want a car that does the job as normal.

Electric vehicles are just better. No noise, no emissions, less fuel costs, less maintenance costs. Gasoline and diesel are OLD polluting technology. So last century. Electric cars, electric trucks, electric buses, electric trash haulers, electric snow blowers, electric lawn mowers, electric snow mobiles, electric water craft, electric garden tools, electric mechanic tools, electric motor cycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters, electric farm tractors, electric construction equipment, electric delivery vehicles, ...... everything is going electric. No worries about starting after sitting for a few months. Gas always needs repairs.

Sorry but £60k for a Ford, that would be a no and sorry but it is not in the same class as a Jag or Audi. To justify that price it would have to be considerably better than the competition because it is always gong to be classed as the poor relation. There is a bit of a snobbery issue when you get to that price range. Jaguar, Mercedes & Audi are in there at the Golf Club, Sorry turning up in your Ford is not going to get you in the Members Lounge.

Calling it a Mustang is false in all aspects. They just put it on there because they have no faith in what they built. Really says a lot. In my opinion.

This car is rubbish. When you think of the word Mustang you think of an incredible, two-door muscle car with a big V8 and an incredible sound, not an electric SUV. I do quite like electric cars but this one is just awful. I would’ve liked this car more if they just made it a regular Ford and not a Mustang.

Like most British car reviewers, you like pretend that MG doesn't exist. The MG ZS EV is actually best value for money not this 65 thousand pound...thing. Typical British snobbery going on as usual. It's like you're actually insulted that the Chinese own the MG brand now. Ironic seeing as it's also highly insulting to call the car reviewed here a Mustang......but you'all love that!
