Here it is 2023 and have had a Stinger GT for two years now. Still get admiring comments on a weekly basis and never tire of being asked what it is. Still fighting the wife for the driver's seat in HER car. What a ride.

I love my fords, but this Stinger GT, I'd buy one tomorrow for sure.

KIA is making cars that would surprise quite a few folks. I have spent 25 years now in the car business. I recently purchased a pre owned 2013 KIA Optima SXL. You can't buy a car with that many options and that kind of performance for the price other than the KIA. 2.0 Turbo with 275 HP. Heated and Air-conditioned seats, two sunroofs, paddle shifters, Infinity stereo with subwoofer, leather, Navigation...I paid 12k. I have driven almost every car imagineable. I never even thought about a KIA until I drove this car.

Why--I have owned a mustang gT before--now own a Stinger--Technology is a wonderful thing.I got AWD and leave it in smart mode and it can dust many fast cars.Plus a 167 mph top end is incredible for the price and what you get.

I've got my eye on an Ecoboost Mustang in a couple of years - but if I wanted 4 doors I'd go for the 2.0 turbo Stinger. I've had 2 Falcons, then downsized to a Mazda 3 SP23 and the next car for me will be bigger regardless. The Stinger has peak torque down low and the 8 speed helps. Ford's 10 speed auto and the power upgrade for the 2018 GT sees the GT run high 3's to 100km/h and pretty much a 12 second flat 1/4 mile, so Ford is already taking back the crown

Lucky bastard :) The reviews for the Stinger tend to downplay or stop short of critricising it's sporting prowess. But really, it is a large car that wears a few hats for maximum appeal. It's not going to be a razor sharp in the corners, but at the same time, it will be fairly comfortable too. By the sounds of it, it does it's intended job fairly well.

TDN Gaming the 4 Door Sedan sports car never sells well. 300, Chevy SS. Ect. Even the Dodge Charger doesn’t sell many 6.2-6.4 cars. Only grandma 5.7 and 3.6. The Kia looks nice, had nice numbers but for 55k for RWD and over 60k for awd. 12.9 RWD and 12.5 awd quarter mile and 4.5/4.1 0-60 isn’t impressive at all. Cars at the price point are pushing 11.8 quarter and 3.40-60 It’s just to much money for the performance

I still think it's great performance for the money, and plus the prices shown are in AUD, not USD. It may not sell as well as SUV's and other stuff, but they can be made to be an absolute weapon when modified!

Motor trend has an article about the 2018’s running in the high 11’s completely stock with the 10 speed automatic, driving the the lot any messing with tire pressures and using launch control consistory running 11.9’s. Automatics have a huge advantage, manuals take a ton of practice, I’ve owned my vehicle for four years and upgraded the clutch at two years and I still can’t consistently hit my best time, I’m close but minor things make for .2 .3 second differences.

Both great cars but I'm glad the underdog won.

@@kapulanikai1 there's more than one review of a stinger vs mustang on KZread, and the stinger always wins in a drag, most of the reviews are with the awd stinger and the stinger can't get the power to the ground so the stinger walks away. rolling start would be a different story but its just a fact that if you can't transfer the power to the ground than you aren't going to be fast.

What's the Mustang's time with the launch control?

I wouldn't be disappointed with either of these rockets. Drags are one thing, I want to see the lateral G's though, because I love corners.

That Stinger is quick!! Would love to have seen it against an auto Stang though

The auto's are easier to launch and wont lose time during gear changes. They usually run a few 10ths/sec quicker. Many stock autos run into the high 12's

You gotta remember, the mustang in different countries has 15 less hp and 10 less torque because of the steering wheel being on the right side. It makes the exhaust super restrictive. But you should’ve used an auto.

The 2019-22 mustang GT is 460 horsepower vrs this version they tested that was only 425-430 but likely only 425 due to the steering wheel being on the right as you said.

That wasn't a 2018 mustang gt bro it was 2016-2017 mustang gt you can tell because it has single exahaust they are 435 hp at the crank where the 2018-2019 are 460 at the crank 2018-2019 gts have quad exhaust not single exhaust any mustang gt guy would know this

Agree. When people start doing pulls on the highway they will begin to understand the advantage of horsepower. The stinger here is quick but just look at the launch and you can see the advantage. Trap speeds of about 106 in this video however tell the horsepower to weight story.

I ride both car stinger has way more features 4 door, awd, bigger cargo space, harman kardon speaker, wireless charger, HUD, heated steeringwheel, brembo brakes, etc. way more. one is v6 twin turbo and one is V8. V6 tiwin turbo has better gas. Mustang rear seats are so shitty and interior is all plastic yeah v8 and lot of horse power but i live in Canada which means rear wheel drive is so shitty plus more gas. Tiny trunk space and touch screen is so slow....

Not really. Motor trend got 12.6/115.1 out of a 2018 Mustang GT PP1 automatic and 12.6/113.1 with the manual PP2, but got 13.2/106.4 with the 2018 Kia Stinger GT2. The Mustang automatic also achieved 3.9 to 60 compared to 4.7 for the Stinger. Kia did well and the Stinger GT is a great compromise between a family hauler and afternoon fun machine. With a weight of just over 4,000, pretty darn good performance

I'm calling complete bullcrap. 2018 Mustang runs high 11s for automatics and low 12s for manual. I ran a 12.7 in the 1/4 in a stock manual 2017 mustang and that was only my 6th time on a drag strip so you can't tell me that the Kia Stinger is faster than the mustang. Only way is if they were at very high altitude and which that's where the Kia's turbos would come into play. Also the driver shifted a 1000 rpm sooner than redline which is also going to lower your 1/4 mile time. I see a lot of comments about "oh there is a lot of people getting butt hurt" I'm a mustang fan so clearly I'm going to get defensive when you make a bs claim about my favorite car. Might be able to bs some people just to get the extra views but not everyone.

HRT 666 There was a lot wrong with this test. The 18 Mustang is more powerful than the 17 they tested, auto vs manual, used launch control in the Kia but didn't in the Ford, and shifted the mustang at 6.5k rpm which isn't good.

The Kia Stinger is half a second faster in a quarter mile. I’ve even seen it do 4.6s rather than 4.8s to 100. The auto in the Mustang will be faster, but not 0.5-0.7s faster.

I know you're an internet troll, and I have nothing against the stinger.. I am quite happy that "family car" companies like Kia are stepping up their game and making competition closer... But you have to be a fool to disagree with my statement. You cannot compare automotive technology from 2014 to 2018 and say it's a fair race. The cars didn't even have the same transmission! Say what you want, but the stock quartermile of the 2018 GT 10 speed is ~12s. Not to mention the Kia GT is substantially more expensive than the "tested" car in the video. Troll away.

Both nice cars id have any of them, think if it was a 2020 mustang gt 10 speed auto it would of left the kia in the dust they do 0 to 100kph in 3.9 seconds but the kia is jack of all trades and 4 door too, both really nice cars tho 👌👍

Torque from turbocharger everytime.. That was evident from the very first time the XR6 turbos were whipping the XR8, when the BA Ford's came out. Everyone was astonished. Including myself. Love the turbo. Respect..

Love to see the kia with a few more factory Lbs of turbo boost option and in the all wheel drive version Mustang v drag race . I think that motor has a lot more left in it and amazingly this KIA Stinger is a first attempt side project not even flagship model .

karlmalone11 note....you say a properly driven stick mustang.....are you Foreal?....let me tell u bout an auto....brake n gas to a point.....manual....three pedals....and hope u don't spin or bog out the hole.....then consistency becomes a factor....a stick will never be as consistent as an auto........ EVER

Funny i would think the trap speed would be a good indicator of how quick they are. They are nearly identical, unfortunately for the mustang it seems the Stinger is just better at getting off the line. I wonder how much better the Mustang Drag pack would fair, though it would increase the price.

Old post but exactly I've out ran a couple of Kia stingers with a 16 mustang GT with a manual transmission. Not sure why they couldn't get a better run because I'm definitely running high 11s

I'd be interested to know if this was the AWD or FWD version? That would probably make a huge difference as well. Regardless it's a win for Kia here just being mentioned. As who thought we would even be having this conversation right now. :)

AUDM doesn't get the AWD.

Apparently the North American version of the 2018 Mustang GT is a lot faster because I've seen totally stock ones run 1/4 mile in 11.6 to 11.8 seconds and go 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds. The numbers this guy is getting is more like the 2.3 Ecoboost Mustang. Lol

As a 2012 gt owner looking for something newer, this actually makes me happy.

Can you get a manual in Kia? If not, keep it.

Automatic transmission in the GT would beat the Kia stinger by half a second. The guy was not the worlds best manual transmission driver by any means.

Otto Bauch it would be pretty close. I have seen the auto go against the SS and the chevy has a tome of 4.1 and it beats the mustang every time. The stinger is 4.2 0-60 without launch mode. I know i have one. With a tune im getting it adds 80 hp and 115 ft lbs. Thats 445 hp and 495 ft lbs. The stinger with a tune is 3.1 seconds. The mustang cant hang with that.

Otto Bauch yeah stock auto vs auto it would be very close. I think the stinger is the better all around car. You can drive it hard but also be comfortable on long trips with awd for the winter

Chris Huber two very different cars for sure. Used to work at a Kia dealership and have a respect for the quality actually. Good cars. But I was born and raised ford so I have my biases in favor of ford obviously. Comes down to personal preference. Both my mustangs I’ve owned are very tolerable for road trips but are not Cadillacs by any means.

I hate to be that guy but Mustangs with a proper driver are good for Mid to low 12's in the 1/4. I had to hear it myself, maybe you're just not a good driver and can't get the most out your car. Mustangs are harder to drive being RWD and manual. An AWD and Auto will always have the advantage

Can you put the Kia up against the Impala LT

The Mustangs that are faster probably cost more than the Stinger GT. i think in this video they wanted to compare same cost for performance ? Either way, a 4 door hatchback that costs $50k doing 12's in the 1/4 mile is amazing.

Paully Castallano 3 psi isn’t going to change much. 18 Auto Stang hits 11.7 quarter and 3.8 0-60 gonna need a lot more than 3psi to get that stinger down 1.2 seconds

Not surprised the Stinger won. However, that big 5.0 has a lot more potential with some after-market parts.

Where did you see the word "always" used? I'm not even a Mustang fan but I have seen better drivers put down better times with the Mustang GT. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ppdsrayMn7rMeps.html (note the Mustang trap speed @ 2:56 and the track they are running at is in Arizona at about 1145ft) If it was a 2018 they tested: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pnZ6tKNmeqvJfJs.html (Mustang time at 0:56)

My tired 2014 xr6t which is regularly used for outback driving with family will probably be replaced with stinger 😬 as much as I love the v8 sound and looks of mustang. Reality is like turbo falcon, stinger lower maintenance alround and the 1000km trips to visits to bush the stinger wins. I will buy a mustang one day for a weekender like many of their owners I know

Idgaf what anyone says, the last so few years, Kia has been killing it and their winning me over. Go look at most reliable car lists and best car lists and you always see Kias in there, they make great car.
