I would rather see Model A groups to be like a shop class like I was in high school. I could listen to you all day long.. Great video.

I watched you on your breaks and I made a tool just like you had showed and believe me it actually works. What at that little tidbit I don't think I'd ever got that spring on and when you say it's a job you ain't lying.

So true but such compromises are why the guy above said the Model A brakes only "impede progress". People just can't believe that Henry's ways were actually quite precise. This video is a good example, though, of what most Model A brakes look like under the shiney paint, etched wind wings, American flags, and chrome rock guards. Better now than most with the front plates replaced. Good job.

Paul is in between Les and Ford. Les favors the rear for stopping, Ford favored the front. these are great videos Richard. My 1929 pickup just got delivered and quite frankly, I'm afraid to look at the brakes....... This video lets me know the horrors to expect.

Most of us started the same way,we knew nothing. Congrats on your new ride.Hope it gets a name in the future. Preservation is so important for the future of model A's .I did the exact same thing a year ago ,doing everything under the car that was nessary to have great brakes .I occasionally test the brakes on a dirt road, hit the brakes ,get out and look at the skid marks.Enjy and be safe.

I'm enjoying your videos. The brakes on a Model A "impede progress" as opposed to stopping it. Little joke but not far from the truth. The reason the front breaks are adjusted so they are not locked up is so you don't lose steering when you brake hard. The front wheels still try to roll instead of sliding. I currently have a '31 slant window Fordor. I did a frame off restoration in '98 and it still works great. The only modification I did was to put an '85 Ford Ranger 4 speed in it. The gear rations of 1st, 2nd and 3rd are the same as the stock trans, 4th is a .87 overdrive if I remember right. The real advantage to me is all synchromesh. Oh, I also converted to a 12 volt neg ground.

You can run a tap into the bushing and then knock it out. Works pretty good most of the time.

I felt your pain on this job, I’m working on a 31 that has the same issues. Mine is missing all of the emergency brakes and the brake rods. Sorting out the parts at this moment. Enjoyed watching the process, there are good people out here that will help us on these cars. Quick question, did you replace the hubs with cast iron? Ken in Kentucky

I’m shocked the e-brake lever/shaft wasn’t seized since it was being used. What did the centering tabs look like?

You need to address the roller tracks before installing, brakes will never work correctly with that wear.
