    For the filter removal slip a 1 qt zip lock bag over it. That’ll catch the spillage as you take it off. Plus you can then seal the bag making disposal spill proof as well.

    Would definitely help. Man if the oil filter was up top in the engine, that would make things so much easier. Just would only have to take off that plastic piece on the shield plate and drain the oil through the tube using the fumoto valve.

    I was thinking "that drain valve is awesome" for about 5 minutes until I saw you remove the oil filter and realized there's nothing you can do to make that a cleaner, easier job.

    Still have to remove oil filter unfortunately and the shield plate. I’m gonna start filling up my 5qt jug instead of using the oil pan. Idk pros and cons to everything I guess

    Nice job on the oil change. I liked how you suggested cracking the filler cap and that you used clean oil on the filter gasket. What are you thoughts on putting some fresh oil in the new filter before spinning it on? Nice work!

    Thank you! There is a big debate on putting oil in the filter lol. personally, I’ve never done it but this last oil change I did. I believe some model vehicles have the oil filter installed upside down in the engine bay and you can’t pre-fill those! I’d just do what you want to do.

    Try using a hammer and a punch to make a hole in the filter ...it supposedly drains out the hole making less of a mess. I have yet to try it, but it's obviously only for vertical oil filters. The only caution is to make sure you have the correct replacement filter on hand or another vehicle to go get a filter. 9:17 Also, my theory for why there's a little extra oil that drains out is because of the TiVCT camshaft phasers. They use oil to change the timing. When i had a 17' Focus, it slowed to a drip then after about 5 minutes went back to a stream

    I was going to use a punch for this video but I could not find my dang punches anywhere haha. Never done it before but have seen videos on it and it looks promising! God to know about the residual oil. I left it draining while I went to homedepot and it still had some left once I undid the bolt.

    So does Ford wants you to change the oil every 20,000 miles??? 3:57 But you are doing it every 10k miles? If so, I would suggest that you change the oil every 5k miles if you want to get the longest life out of your engine.

  • @JOSHIC

    Yea ford says every 10k miles and I was going by what they stated. After this oil change I will be changing a little sooner. I believe this second oil change was around the 8.5k mark.

    Could you drill a hole into the shield then use some kind of right angle extendeder and put the fumoto drain valve on the outside of the shield?

  • @JOSHIC

    @JOSHIC

    7 ай бұрын

    The shield on mine has a black plastic piece that can come off which would allow you to run a hose from the valve to your drain pan. Only thing is, is that you still need to get to the oil filter and the shield plate still needs to come off

    If this isn't engineering gross incompetence, what is it, is this the best that they can come up with under the car, it could be put up top under the hood easily accessible and made not to have oil pouring out in volume after undoing the filter.

    Your going to long on your oil changes. Ford Ecoboost engines like clean oil and lots of flow. That oil needs to be changed every 5000 miles. Do not pay attention to what the computer in the dash says. Look up any of the Ford master techs on youtube and they will all tell you the same thing. This is my 6th vehicle with an ecoboost and I always go off 5000 miles and cheers on using the OEM filter. Ford like to deny warranties for engines if you use any other brand. Oh and only buy synthetic. The synthetic blend is not worth it.

  • @JOSHIC

    @JOSHIC

    Hey thank you for the input. I have decided to start doing the changes sooner and will be using full synthetic next time for sure! I seen a video of the ford tech saying that the synthetic blend was the minimal spec to use and he recommended using full. For sure will be more on top of things moving forward!

    It's not hard although it's one less step that eliminates the need to unscrew the plug as hot oil is draining out (ever drop the plug into your oil while changing it?). Also eliminates the need to replace the crush washer.
