Whenever you experience high idle, check codes. Replace the IAC valve or TPS or ISC motor. Remove the throttle body and check for excessive clearance between the butterfly and air-horn. If excessive, it'll be like the throttle is half-throttle. Replace the throttle body.

Marty Stevens The CTS can detect low temperature and cause high idle. Live data can detect that.

I have 89 e250 my still idles high , I replaced egr valve and all the sensors and check for vacuum leaks, found none. also Change oil & filter , put in new thermastate & water pump. drives nicer in gear but still has high idle in park and N could timing be off make it high idle??? says electronic idle is not adjustable under the hood. any suggestions? ?

I have the same problem with my 89 F-150 5.0, did you find the solution??

I have a 1985 crown Victoria LTD that’s doing the same thing, do you think it is the EGR valve?

No if it was that it would stumble. More than likely it’s your intake gaskets and idle air control valve

damn thats fast idle, if its the egr just replace it.

as cold as it is that is way to high to idle from the start.2000rpm from the start is not good on the bearings and if you do not take care of that YOU WILL SPIN A BEARING.wow i can't believe you haven't spun one yet in that cold weather and jumping to that rpm level from the start.good luck buddy.

my truck idles at 1500 until taping the gas...it also wants to die when in reverse and reverse only any ideas?

I'd check the idle air control valve and spray carb cleaner around the intake. If the idle changes you found your problem
