Thanks Mathew, This is what KZread does best, sharing knowledge and experience 👍..... I did mention that the bolts were awkwardly recessed though. Glad to be of help 😊

Thank you for the video. I did this job today. You didn't mention how awkward those lower thermostat bolts are to access! Nightmare but got there in the end. Cheers

How did you get the lower bolts?

@@relebogilemanamela2907 with a lot of swearing and frustration. I just did them 'blind' using an extension on a ratchet. It takes a fair few times to hit the target though.

@@Matthew-tf4nr I can relate took me nearly 2hrs and gave up. I ended up moving the intake manifold to side it was way easier

Yes, that seemed to be an access point to me as well 👍.... but I decided to go for ease of access to the thermostat via the alternator because the thrrmostat bolts were so recessed.... remember, I did this real time first time. If there is a next time I'll try removing the headlight only 😁:-) Thanks for the feed back

I also noticed that the housing has three outlets but one is blanked off, weird?

I did this job today. I did it the same as you except I removed the drivers side headlight for a bit of extra room. I've heard that 'pro's' do the job without removing the alternator, which to be fair only improves access to the top thermostat mounting bolts 'slightly', for all the faffing about. If I ever do this job again I'll attempt it leaving the alternator alone.

just change it yesterday ,, after changing the heat was still going up ,, then after few miles it decreased to normal ,, i assumed the new thermostat needed time to heat up and open , now its great

Word of Advice: The spring part of the thermostat must go towards the engine block NOT towards the cooler. My used car had it wrong which is why it kept overheating. The schematics on 7zap from the manufacturer seem to be wrong since they seem to demand the thermostat to be installed with the spring section towards the cooler.

Yes.... The Ghia is the only one that has that & maybe the Cmax as well...(Observation in scrap yard)

Thanks for the video. I'm going to attempt this in the next week or so, once the weather has warmed up a little.... This video will be incredibly useful....👌 can anyone tell if if its worth replacing the alternator belt whilst replacing the thermostat?

Hi Loftus, If the altenator belt (fan belt) is worn, then this would be a good time to do that job yes 👍... As I said, you will need an assistant to make crow-barring the altenator in place easier. The thermostat is in a difficult to reach place and the bolts x2 on the far side need to be tightened by feel with a ratchet extension. You'll need a 1/4 inch ratchet for earliest access? 👍👍👍👍👍

If you want to access the belt properly jack the passenger side up take the wheel off and you can take the belt off properly. I would replace the belt when doing this regardless of the condition of your aux belt.

Hi Matt, I do a fair bit of DIY so I think you may still need to remove alternator to get good access to all bolts...🙄🤔

Am un Ford focus, motor Zete 1,6. Ventilatoarele de pe radiator pornesc înainte că termostatul să deschidă. Am schimbat doua termostate și face același lucru. Mulțumesc.

Changing the thermostat should not affect the radiator fan or vice versa.....
