    Finally someone with enough brains to show that platic part has to be removed first on the bottom! THANK YOU!!! Other videos do not show removing that plastic part on the bottom first to get to the two star screws! Geeze!!!!

    Thanks for the video! Although I've been installing stereos as a hobby since the days when minitrucks and Daytons were a thing, I've never installed an LC2i before. I just ordered one last night and was hoping for just a general purpose video with tips and tricks, that sort of thing, so imagine my surprise when the first LC2i video I find is for my car, the Mk3 Focus! Nice job too, that wiring job is cleaner than some of the "pro shop" jobs I've had to fix for friends over the years.

    My 2016 Focus SE had the same speakerr wire configuration, but for some reason the "white" wires were all kind of light-orange but otherwise the brown wires and stripes were all the same. Also thanks to the comment that mentioned the issue with remote wire and your response - very helpful stuff.

    to be honest the MFT and Sync has grown on me I have come to really like it. Also the sony stereo does put out a better signal than the basic stereo. So when I drive in both of my cars, they have almost identical setups, the sony one still sounds better. I promise buy a 2014-15 ST3 and you will be very happy.

I have a ford focus 2013 SE model with the same radio station as the one shown in the video. So, I am thinking of putting up LEDs in the car to pulse to the music I am listening and I wanted to know the polarities of the front speaker wires you have mentioned in the video. I am thinking of connecting the LED wires on them and that should work fine. Also let me know what you think about this project ? I am basically a newbie with this stuff so... Thanks anyways.

    Hi Jason I wonder if you know much about the wiring powering the USB and AV connections in the arm rest of the focus ST? I assume if I can figure out what wire did what i could connect an aftermarket head unit up with the rear USB and AV to them and so retaining the connections in the arm rest? I notice in your video there was a whole block not connected on your stock player?

    Jason, thanks for the quick response. My husband didn't think he could do it to my car because of all the added accessories, and he said I would have to change the head unit but I want to keep the original head unit. What size speakers & amp do you recommend? My husband has a Mini Cooper and installed a system in there and it sounds great! His speaker is only a 10' & the amp is a Rockford but the quality is perfect!

I also have a 4CH Rockford amp (t400-4) and a 2CH Soundstream amp (p4-500) and Im planning on connecting the coaxials to the Rockford and the subs to the Soundstream. So my question is, with this setup I mentioned will the LC2i work for this setup or do I need something with more channels, say a LC6i?

    That is funny. This is the best place to splice. lots of room to be able to reconnect everything back to stock. Which is exactly what I did before I traded this thing in. P.S. always use an Active LOC. Active means the LOC has its own power.

    ive got 2 questions, 1:you said somewhere in the comments that you shouldnt turn your steoro above 75 percent, will it blow something or damage it? safe for the car? and 2: ive got an 800 watt amp, and 10 inch sub for a little boost, is it an absolute must to have an LC2 or is there a way i can use what i got? i suck with wiring and electrical but short on $$, thanks in advance

  • @FatGuyBuilds

    @FatGuyBuilds

    9 жыл бұрын

    Devotion O'Connor don't go over 75% because distortion rises very quickly above that. distortion kills speakers. the LC2 works 2 fold... 1= give you a remote out since the car does not have an ACC line. 2= puts out 8 times more input voltage to the amp than a shitty 20$ pre-amp converter. this allows you to keep the gain low on your amp and get the same power output from your amp. LC2i is very cheap when you consider the sound quality you will get in the end. if you cant scrape together 85$ then you should not be upgrading anything.

    Jose Delacruz Yes you still wire it up the same. but I can sell you my 5channel for 200$ plus shipping. then you just need an LC2i, which i might have a spare. for an extra 50. then just wire in a subwoofer only and instead of cutting the speaker wires going to the LC2i you will just splice the wires in a Tee. that way you keep stock speakers and wiring. but later when you want to upgrade, you will be all set. and you will only have to upgrade the door speakers.

    Great video, but a few questions. You only need one LOC? i have lc2i, but everyone locally is saying i need more than one. one for front, one for rear, one for sub channel..you only have one. you just hook the loc to the 4 front speaker wires, run it to the back. run rca from teh loc to the amp.. and then run amp speakers back to HU. basically the gist of it? when you ran the 16 speaker cables back to the stereo, is that just because that is where you are tying in to the existing cables since they are all there? they don't have to be plugged into the head unit since they are getting their signal from the amp now...right? just easier than running wires all over the car to splice into the speakers...

  • @FatGuyBuilds

    *yes I wanted to use the existing car wiring to send the sound to the speakers. *You only need 1 lc2i. you can adjust the fader with the amp gains. *My 5channel has a button that copies channel 1&2 and sends the same signal to channels 3&4. so I only need 1 left signal and 1 right signal. then the lc2i has a sub output as well.

    take a volt meter and connect it to the speaker terminals in the back of the trunk. if you see no voltage. then there must be some kind of cut wires somewhere. also, pull the radio out. unplug it. measure across the speaker wires and see how many OHMS it reads. should be between 4 and 6.

    Great informative video, great job! I just bought the 2012 Focus in March. Now have over 64K miles, so no longer warranty. The radio does this loud popping and status noise, then sound completely cuts out. Turning car off and back on seems to reset it. Sometimes it will work fine for days, then cut out like that several times in a day. Found a LOT of other comments on a ford forum about Focus and Fiesta having these issues. Seems common trouble and comments talk about having to have dealerships replace the whole radio unit for over $700! Does your upgrade solve these issues? Does it make any difference if you also have volume controls on the steering wheel? What about just replacing speakers or the whole radio unit? There's comments about having to have Ford dealers reprogram a sync, but my model doesn't have sync or bluetooth. Any advice greatly appreciated! I like my music, but not rolling in dough right now to fix it!

    I have the same exact problem as Ruth. That crackling and popping noise that kills the audio is ridiculous. First I would just lose my audio without the popping static, so ford replaced the audio control module for 100 bucks. Now I get all that crackling AND the audio goes. Ford said they would give it another try at no extra charge, but Im not very confident they know what the problem is. Like Ruth said, any advice or similar experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    I am looking at putting a Pioneer Double DIN head unit in place of a factory Head Unit. When looking at the wiring I have the Can + and Can - Wiring into the back of my current stereo. I have never had a car than runs the Can Bus. Is it possible that someone knows what implications not connecting Can Wiring to the back of the new stereo has? Also on another note is it possible to get a connector to run stereo via the steering wheel controls?

  • @FatGuyBuilds

    @FatGuyBuilds

    I would say if you want a double din, you may want to go to the junk yard and upgrade to the ford touch screen. CAN bus is the way the radio turns on and the way all of the stuff like SYNC works. I would never swap a head unit in any of these new cars. If you want a certain head-unit in the future you will need to buy a car that comes factory with it.

    Good tip about the relay to make sure the thing shuts itself off. I wonder, though, if the factory radio has a 12-volt switched lead coming out of it somewhere that you could tap into without having to bother with a physical relay? Like you said, it's a very low-current remote-switch power-draw -- I wonder if the factory radio has something built-in that offers you that low-current 12-V source? Just a thought...

    I am currently adding an amp to my focus. The amp accepts high level inputs so i was going to run 4 pairs back to amp for input and 4 pairs back to behind head unit for output. I got to thinking as this is a shitload of wire. I already went down left side of car with 4 gauge wire for amp and it had just enough room in channel for it. I plan to go down other side of car with speaker wire. Did you have to run yours under carpet as I know all this speaker wire wont fit in that channel. I was planning on 14 gauge but have since decided I will have to go with 16. Also you mentioned full range is only on front speakers. Now i am wondering if my amp will be able to process the full range for sub output. I know only low frequency is needed but now wonder if amp will process from all channels or only back or front.
