Ford Focus RS WRC (1999-2002): Starts, Accelerations, Turbo Anti-Lag Crackles & Sound!

I was pretty sure to have a lot of material about the first-gen Ford Focus WRC but I've never made a fully dedicated video. So here's a 15 minutes compilation which contains everything I found since the first time I recorded one in 2013 until last year.
Unveiled in 1999 by M-Sport in order to replace the Ford Escort WRC, the Focus was based on the Ford Focus Climate-package 2-litre road car and it was just named Focus WRC (the 'RS' badge was introduced the following year). Despite coming close on several occasions, the car never won either the drivers or manufacturers title.
Even if in this video you see a nice alternation of liveries, you're just looking at 3 cars:
- Chassis 'S6 FMC' (plated S6 FMC): it's an ex-works car built at the end of 1999 and used in just 1 round by Colin McRae. In 2000 it was entered in other 2 WRC rounds and driven again by Colin and Petter Solber. From 2001 onwards it was used by many private teams around Europe.
- Chassis 'EJ02 KMX' (plated EJ02 KMX): This Focus is one of the last first-gen built and it started its rally career in 2003. It was only used by private teams around Europe.
- Chassis 'EK51 HYA' (plated EK51 HYA): It's another ex-works Focus used by Carlos Sainz during the WRC Rallye de España 2002 and then entered in 3 other rounds with Markko Märtin behind the wheel. In 2003 Mikko Hirvonen drove the same chassis during the WRC Rally of Sweden.
The video starts with some scenes I recorded during an event on a closed, arranged stret circuit in Italy. Most of the other shots are taken from different editions of the San Marino's RallyLegend, you can see some action from two rallies on permanent circuits back in 2014 and then a few senes from a local rally I went in 2013. Hope you like it!

The most beautiful Focus
The first focus, and the best looking one IMO. Amazing to think this shape has been with us over 20 years already! Reminds me of the McRae / Burns era of WRC. Sad they are both no longer with us.

One of the greatest rallycars ever, and McRae truly did brilliant drives with this (and Sainz of course too). But it was cursed with semi-poor reliability back in the day.
One of my favourite rally car!
Great stuff! I own both a Focus RS Mk1 and a Mk1 Capri with a paint job inspired by a 2001 Focus WRC. Loved this era of rallying.

Great job, well done ! Also love the sound of acceleration from On-Board, when you can hear all the transmission, gearbox etc.
My first car was a 03 focus svt with crane racing stage 2 cam . Custom headers straight 2.5 exhaust. Tone of steeda parts/focusport they used to make Bolt ons for mustang's and focuses it also had a short throw shift with linkage it really felt like a rally car and was sooo fast for what it was .. i miss it so much it was alot funner than my 350z that I moved into

dude nice. i've got an '03 SVT myself but i have diferrent plans for it. wanna swap in a twin-turbo Nissan V6 (a VQ i think?) and AWD swap it along with loads of weight reduction. should be fun.

Interesting to note this era of car reaching very high boost 3.9 bar helping achieve a lot of torque despite the 34mm restrictor. The 1.6 era cars 33m/36mm are only allowed to run 2.5 bar boost

Yep. Both my friends/youtubers, with whom I usually collaborate, and I never use tripods if not for extra static shots (like the one at 4:17). We always hold cameras in our hands, but I can't hide the fact they have a great image stabilization

@@butterdawgg Ive immediately fell in love with mine. Nothing special zx3 with an exhaust and a few small touchups. Still an amazing car. It really is nothing special to a lot of people, but I think ford really outdid themselves with the multiple iterations of the zx3. Modern classic thats insanely slept on in the states.

@@oofmansupreme8384 That would be freaking sweet! Would definitely be a blast! If I has the money and space ideally I'd like to swap a 5.0 Coyote motor in it and turbo it lol. I know atleast one guy did that last year (video of it here on Utube). Unfortunately unless I got extremely lucky to find a totaled mustang cheap af, that ain't happening. I am curious what people use to make them awd?

Those cars sound like the gates of hell have been opened and theirs that much stuff trying to ram its way back out through the gates that the door frame snaps in half. That's exactly what's happening here with the tail pipe and the forced explosions travaling through it. It's a very well tailered engine note.

The clutch is pretty much open or closed. No in bwteen like a normal car.
but there were 2 cars with the"s6 fmc" plate!

As I said in the description it's just the same car. To be picky 's6 fmc' appears in this video with 4 different liveries (3 white ones and a Martini one) and 7 different numbers (which is the total number of events I've seen it at). The clips where it's mainly white were taken in 2013 and early 2014. But by the end of 2014, for the RallyLegend of that year, it was wrapped with a 2001 inspired livery which was still on it last year

Dici perchè a 2:29 fa fumare la ruota anteriore? Occhio che ad inizio video la stessa identica macchina è alzata sui cavalletti con tutte e quattro le ruote in movimento... Per quel comportamento atipico in uscita curva, possibile avesse qualche problema al differenziale anteriore oppure è solo una caratteristica dell'auto quando non si dosa correttamente l'acceleratore fuori dalle curve strette. Mi pare questa versione di Focus avesse dei più veloci differenziali elettronici e non dei tradizionali meccanici, quindi facile che la guida sporca provochi una risposta del differenziale 'strana' alla vista (però son solo mie supposizioni, non sono un meccanico nè un ingegnere). even as a base non rally model, this focus friggin slaps hard built like a tank, can endure so much damage and replacement parts are cheap
Rally legend, but the one that was put on sale for the public is possibly one of the shittiest cars of its time.

Fist gear too long, too many gears for the top speed, gears too close together. This is why there are poor starts and too much shifting.
