Typical Fault where dash Cluster becomes Unresponsive where a good whack from the Driver would make it burst into life
we can usually turn over these Units in the same day if you require this service.

Just a note to say that I was experiencing the same symptoms relating to the dashboard lights coming on, car not turning over, the rev and speedo dropping when it was working etc. The battery was replaced by the Auto Technician but the same problem occurred later on that particular day. Appreciate the Auto Technician would have needed more time to look into this but the Christmas Hols were looming and I needed a reliable means of transport. Saw this post and a few others so decided to give soldering the 32 interface pins again a go (not very well soldered I might add :-) ). Worked a treat. From having 30-40 failed starts per day over four days to having zero over the last 5 days. Enough evidence there I think. Appreciate this video and others on You Tube. Please also note the cluster is easy enough to remove, you do not need to take the steering wheel off !!! (Not this video but another I saw). Also the car was a Ford Focus MKII registered in 2007. The cluster had the date December 2005 marked on the back of it. The solder itself seemed shiny enough (assuming NOT lead free) but you could see cracks on the top two and bottom two pins on the interface.

Intressting Video. Seems to be a comnon problem with this typ of car and at least in Germany they charge a lot to repair it. So fixing it yourself after your video is an good alternative.

Very helpful, thanks. I dismantled the cluster to check the pcb, but didn't position the needles correctly against the backstop, so beware. I had to dismantle it a few times to calibrate them!

Just for reference I had been told that I might need to change the cpu on my brothers car when put on a code reading laptop as the engine management light came on and the car (ford focus LX) would stall at lights after about 20 miles driving. I investigated under the hood and found a small hole about 1cm wide on the pipe in the middle part of the engine reaching underneath which was an angled pipe. This was causing a drop or spike in pressure when the engine got hot making it stall so unless your led display is showing dashes all the way across try checking brittle pipe work if the yellow engine light appears after a while driving. This saved me a lot of money and time wasted which would not have solved the problem if I changed the cpu. Unless you are electrically minded and understand how solder flows, what solder to use or how to take things apart without breaking other bits on the way I suggest you tread with caution trying this approach that this video shows quite well. Everything happens for a reason and normally it’s environment issues such as extreme temperatures & changes, vibrations, or what you are doing that effects them. Use those as a guide to fault find with series of eliminating and logging with notes and pictures what was going on before and after each process you engage in and you will not get lost or go back 2 steps. Hope this helps 🌹🐝🙏🏻 great video @Get Electronic

Help please! Hello how are you? I have a problem when I lock the car board my computer doesn't turn off and my battery runs out. This happens when I unlock if the cd radio does not work. When it doesn't turn on, the computer doesn't turn off when I lock it. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t work. When the radio is running normally, the on-board computer shuts down on time. If you don't know, maybe the problem is with the computer, what if you had similar experiences. Greeting

Good job!! Is this a common problem with Ford Focus?? Mine is 2007, and main problem could be the main connector, those 32 pins solders??Pins??/ Is reflowing just enough for those pins,....or you need to solder, add stuff in there?? And what you were using to clean the board:: Rubbing alcohol?? Thanks again=)Ps. could this problem empty the battery over night?/

Amazing video!, but I'm a little bit afraid to repair it, even though I'll give it a try. I have the problem with the ignition which sometimes fails and also the digital display shows or Engine Failure or something Acceleration, but occurs once in a while. But when a give a punch in the dashboard it ignites correctly. Do you think as I believe is the cluster? Anyhow I'm not living in New Zealand and I'd like to buy a cluster panel, how I can search for the model you show, which is the same as the one I have.

Thank you so much for your delightful feedback ! yes i agree it would be in your cluster especially from 2004 -2007 its ok the video is there to guide you though the process once you have your top lens off ! if you want to just reflow the main 32 pin connector that would at-least get you under way to a functional car again!

This is all quite vague and putting a huge amount of solder melting hot air over all the electronics as well as joints. For many this is a journey to disaster. I thought repair was a matter of identity and rectification but times seem to have changed.

glad to hear that you realigned your needles but my point was that in your tutorial you neglected to instruct viewers to pre mark their needle positions prior to removal and the reason for doing this . Everyone watching your video that has stripped their pod will now have misaligned needles . re the 'music'...... I found it rather irritating and distracting so I turned the sound off but its a personal thing I guess. its a pity you cannot 'talk' your way through the video because you miss a valuable opportunity to add a lot of extra information and warnings etc that wouldn't be obvious in the video and also to market your business. good luck with that by the way and thanks for posting

yeah but its better than other videos just showing a crappy looking soldering job, fair point however i dont feel like re uploading another video just for that, i talk in some of my other videos it does just depend how my days gone if i talk or not, i can spend up to 4 hours on the phone daily so sometimes i just like to work away with some music, granted yes like your self may not like it however i would just rather post it how it is than just deleting it. as for marketing my business i just have a banner thats overlayed on the video these days (:
