Maybe more of a reason to do the fiesta restoration, i think it will be a golden project for that reason alone, love ford rs cars and Cosworths, just generally older cars as they have a bit of character. Currently starting 2 projects of my own with 2 volkswagen vr6 vento's one completely origional and another supercharged project 👍 Keep up the good work and i look forward to watching more of your videos 👌

That’s going to be beyond practical in time, especially outside. Personally I would like to spot weld in new sills on that and lead load it rather than plod. There inner and outer arches will likely take ages per side. Plus of course you will be wanting a top end respray on after those hundred of hours. That rear panel didn’t look so bad a few months back. Ironically the dishonest would have filled it back up, under sealed , dodgy MOT and back onto facebook ads......you need to crush that shell . Love the VIN number and dustpan of rust offer!

I’m a coded welder and just saved a S2 in worse condition but I loved the car and I didn’t know how bad it was until I started. Like you said if you don’t really like the fez turbos (like myself) I wouldn’t even start the project. Having said that there is plenty of solid metal to weld to and if your planning on selling the car then you need to rescue the original shell, Don’t reshell it. I’ll take the lump off your hands though, she sounds mint. Mines like a tractor in comparison. Best of luck with whatevs you decide 👍🏼

Brings back some memories, 2003 my first car was a 93 L reg fiesta mk3 1.1 in red...I loved that car only had the engine mounts go on it in the 3 years of teenage abuse I gave her. She ended up sitting in my garage for years and a scrappy trailer came and took her for a 100 quid, she didnt actually go wrong I just outgrew her. I wish id kept her even though worth bugger all being 1.1 still a fun car.

I had many mk5s and loved them, but I was sick of welding it up every year for mot. I took the carpet out to do some sill/floor repairs, it turned out the entire back seat/floor join was non existent, and the front floor wasn't even connected to the sills. I sold that Mk5 GHIA with the floor mostly being made from a Hotpoint washing machine shell.

Aaron 🤷🏼‍♂️ You've completely missed the diamond in the rough here!!! Thats not rust! That's a limited edition ford racing lightened shell only ever used in the lemans 24hr races from 1965-72 🚗 So don't be disheartened just get out the silicone, cut up a couple of B&Q's finest orange buckets and get that bad boy waterproofed again. For any structural work Tesco's value bean tins work a treat!! but don't bother welding them UHU will do grand and keep the weight down to a minimum 👍🏼 Sorted Ps If you need anymore tips just give me a shout an I'll point ya in the right direction 😉

When i see yours i wouldn't put my time in it because it is really rotten. I think you are better off with a better shell. Good luck

At 24:00 that silverish thing that is breaking of, I think it was called aluminum kit or aluminum filler. It's basically the same thing like Bondo, but fuses better with aluminum and I think it was stronger. I am not 100 percent sure, but I remember that where i worked the last summer, they were usually applying this kind of paste on retro cars and when it cured, it had the same metallic look to it.

I remember seeing one of these in my local scrap yard many moons ago, the sill cover had fell off, due to pure rust. But these were well known for rotting anyway, same goes for the metro gti, those too had the same problems with the sills, floors jacking point and rear arches. Sadly though you do get some nasty bodges like this! strong chance it was bodged for an mot so it could be moved on. I remember seeing pictures of a metro gti, that had failed its mot, to the point where the floor was orange with rust!! The owner had gave the tester a few quid to put a test on it, Sold it on to one of the lads, who was going to break it anyway, He blew the whistle and got the garage who mot'd it suspended for doing mot's. Another story for you, regarding filler, one lad had " repaired metro gti" This fella practically rebuilt the car with filler to the point it was a work of art! He sold it on to a lad who was going to use the car for rallying, When they came about stripping, it was a death trap! seatbelt mounts that should have been welded in, were just riveted and then bodged over with filler. That was just for starters. The full body was practically on the verge of collapsing, They ended up cutting their losses and weighed it in. As for saving it, that all depends on how far you are willing to go, to me that would be donor sadly. Cut out the good panels, like the inner wings etc. Stuff that can be sold on etc. Shame though, these were great little cars, even though i was into the rover metros, i still like the fiestas.

Ford's notorious for rotting!! Hell of a job you have on your hand's love you how say "just a bit of rot". I'd cut most of it out & replace with some decent sheet steel. Remind's me of my 106 Rallye, but it was no way near as bad as this, especially the sill's in this it'll take forever to do it right, but worth it in the end! a good job for self-isolation! Doubt anyone would be paying 6k for this mind, Good luck with it though great project

I Have a new fiesta now just for commuting to work but miss having an escort plus I have no projects. Was thinking about getting a mk6 escort van, would like to throw an st170 lump in it but don’t know how Matched all the running gear will be. Either that or an rs2000 engine to make it nice and simple and get rid of the old crappy Diesel engine. Do you think an st170 will be a lot of work? It’s far more cheaper buying a whole st for a donor car than it is an rs2000.

If you cannot get access to a decent shell. I would suggest stripping it to a bare shell and get it sandblasted and buy a load of new panels and start from scratch . Least you know what you have then. Its a pity ford didn't seal them well from new and even charge the customer another 1k or 500 quid on manufacturer price. Least when you rebuild it you will know what you have...body sealers with waxoil the complete inside and out
