I raced at the "RING" in 1964 and 1965-- both in the 289 Cobra Roadster and the Cobra Daytona Coupe, and set a lap record that held for 15 years-- WOW I loved the sound of this Fairlane, driver is looking good, you still have not lived until you have seen or heard the sound of the American Cobra's eating the opponents up like a Pac Man game. This really made my day! Bob Bondurant

BondurantSchool would have loved to watch you racing the cobras back then, you guys were very brave
Rolling like a BOSS!
The power is awe inspiring. The sound contains divinity. I love that machine!!!
Lol at the Porsche becoming lap traffic to a fairlane..... sounds properly cranky and I can see he is fighting the oversteer on most corners - what an animal!
Man it was good to here an FE being pushed near to it's limits. I wonder what the other drivers thought when the old Thunder wagon came into view behind them! Brings a tear to my eye!!
Very first car I drove was a 65 Galaxie 500. This video is EPIC!
wow, ich hätte nicht gedacht, daß der Koffer so brutal drückt. was für richtige Männer.
Lovvvve it- thanks-When Fords were man's machines
I'd move over fast too if I saw that Fairlane coming up fast from behind. What a Beast!
thank you -wonderful ride along
Life in The Fairlane!
Dear Bob, your comment is an honour. We are fully aware of you and your 60s races at the Nürburgring and Spa and other places. Lots about and of you in the Cobra Ferrari Wars book. When over to Europe, let us know and you will have a go in the car. Glad this video made your day. the 60s make ours. Barney and Fred
fantastic!!!! the sound of an american v-8 is still music to my ears
This was great reeled them all in one by one! must have scared the other racers seeing that massive ford in their mirrors!
EXELENTE!! QUE GRAN VIDEO!!!!!
Amazing speeds! Looked like a massive adrenaline rush. Thanks for sharing. ;-)
American muscle kicking ass.
thats racing! great car, great driver. keep on racing. thanks
RIP headphones
Sounds awesome! I wish I could drive that track just once in real life, I have hundreds of laps under my belt in video games lol.
ROLLING THUNDER AMAZING
American Muscle kicking ass!
A better mic would be a great investment. That said, it is still a pretty decent video.
Great to watch. My only wish is that it were a higher resolution video!
Klasse wie so ein (altes) Fahrzeug die neuen Platt macht
I had a 30 minute phone conversation with Lee Holman a few years ago about this car. The owners did a bit too well with it, and the FIA attempted to disqualify the wins of the ORIGINAL Fireball Roberts-(?) car to keep this and any other H&M Fairlanes off the track. I have a '64 Fairlane and was interested in some of the parts. The front spindles and brakes are Thunderbird/Galaxy IIRC, and the rears are actually drums. Other than safety, this car has more factory parts than "race only."

A bit like they did in Rally Monte Carlo in 1964 when they gave the Holman-Moody Falcons as huge penalty and opened for a british "victory"
The one thumbs down must have been a Porsche owner.
Brilliant!
Have the other drivers given this car a nickname? Given the color, I'd say "Battleship" is only too fitting. That, plus this thing positively "blows the competition out of the water"!
What a ride! That 427 sounds great in this Moody car and it also sounds terrific in the Thunderbolts. It would make a great American Kit Car. I would build one wouldn't you?
I knew the 1967 Ford Galaxie was used for stock car racing, but not the Fairlane 500. That's pretty insane performance for a race-prepped hunk of iron. Especially entertaining was he passed a 911 Porsche along the way. Haw, haw. Great fun!

Well the enegine is about 150hp down from it`s Nascar-performance to make it moore driveable on a roadtrack like here.

Rex Yoshimoto its running a ford 427 which is probably making 500 HP and those engines are not cheap

Sweet music!!
Cant beat Good old Detroit Iron
I’m a dyed in the will GM guy, but nobody can say anything disrespectful about THIS Ford. Amazing car, amazing driver! 260+ mph...wow I bet those little bugback euro car drivers were puckering up when this baby came blowing by them.
..und Maria ! Cheers
Air resistance is a huge factor at those speeds, making a car like this unlikely if not impossible to reach such speeds. The Bugatti Veyron needed the power of a small hatchback added to it JUST to add another 6 or so MPH to it's top speed. The reason its in Km/H? This is a custom built car for modern racing. Underneath, that is hardly recognizable as a Fairlane. Considering it was built to race on a European circuit like the Nurburging I dont know why it WOULD be in MPH
that gearbox must be tough taking that much stick on downshifts
completly bad ass
TIME TO GET THE GROCERIES, MOFO's! What a trip. I grew up riding in 60's Fairlanes and Galaxies. My old man had his share of speeding tix. ;-)
FE block?
@SpainishArcher Yes, of course. Its laughable to think a car with the aerodynamic properties of a brick with I assume less than 800hp can break 220mph much less 260mph.
Jesus!
Speed in KPH? What country was this race in?
no replacement for displacement :)
Is that 'The Stig' driving?
How do they let a big HP car compete with the little Euro cars ?
it has to be asked ring time?
Eat it Audi...
390 or 427? awesome!

@gbfru I saw 267 kph at least once....
They must have stole the steering wheel from a bus! Just look at the size of it!
anybody got a 64 fairlane shell for sale. I'm thinking of making a H&M replica with the 5.0 coyote motor

How bouta 63 Fairlane wagon cheap...?
@SpainishArcher lol well for one this isnt faster than a Veyron, DEFINITELY not faster than a Gumpert around a track... And this car CAN NOT, HAS NOT, and WILL NOT do 260mph. 260km-h is 160mph
America, F$%k Yeah!
@gbfru Germany
Manliest driver ever.
I love the way you put in fourth gear at 200kmph ¨ btw; lap time??

It was running the full 24-hour course, so if you disregard the GP track part and start to timing from when it returns to the Nordschleife, at the blue wall, then I timed 3:27 to ex-Muhle, this is a little slower than the BMW I8 which did a 8:20 on the usual 20,600 m. version.
