When I had to do the studs on my 99 Expedition 4.6 I found a guy on EBay that sold stainless steel studs and nuts that worked perfect @ about $10 per side
From the looks of that truck I won't be surprised when the owner goes outside to where his truck was parked only to find a pile of rust, lol.

Late to the party on this thread, but I was able to remove /replace all 20 studs in my 2001 Excursion. Excellent tips good sir! I did both sides in about 8 hours. 1 stud had to be drilled, 8 total that broke off long enough to get Vice Grips on. Love your videos!
Great job !! I have never been able to drill a broken bolt in the center, so I cheat I use the Ridgid 35585 No. 10 Screw Extractor Set it includes the bits, the extractors, but most importantly for me it also includes guides to center the drill bit, the only problem would be clearance, again great vids & thank you.

Damn hell of a good job. I just finished exhaust manifolds on a Ford e450 with a V-10 Triton. Had to drill and tap 12 out of 20 bolts. The passenger side was the beast. Watching this video helped me get through that nightmare. Thanks for all the great content.

So.... it's a 2004. The factory set of manifold bolts went bad in five years and your repair lasted six. So your repair lasted longer than the factory set of bolts. If I were the owner, I'd be happy with that.

Cost me 1800 bucks a couple of months ago to replace both cracked exhaust manifolds and 4 broken studs on my 2010 5.4 F150 up here in Alberta. I wasn't happy with this at 90,000 miles. But at least the spark plugs were the one piece type and they had come out with no problem. That was another $210 just for the labor, though. I like Fords best when they still warranty. you are a gladiator when it comes to a challenge!
I see that in most of their videos in your area what most affects the car is rust. Here in Brazil where we live and more specifically São Paulo the cars here have many problems in the suspension. This is due to the streets in bad shape and many problems with fuel injectors and fuel pump due to the Brazilian fuel is very mixed with various chemicals such as solvents and ethanol. I do not remember if ever mentioned, but i also work as a mechanic just like you. Out of curiosity today I had to replace the head gasket of a Peugeot 207 and also had problems with the exhaust manifold, but it was much easier than his work in this video. Great video as always.

Old timer taught me to use a helicoil along with a wax candle. The heat drays the wax in like solder and lubricates the threads far better then the JB. I was dubious at first but was amazed at the results.

I use a trick that has helped me before. Get the manifold hot. Then spray the bolts with ice water. ( in a spray bottle. ) When my 5.4 warped an exhaust manifold.i replace them with headers. The flange was thicker than the stock manifolds.

Unfortunately the sun will bake your interior and crack the dash if you don't get tint and apply armor all religiously.
I like to build up the broken stud with a welder and then weld a nut on and it usually comes right out first try with the right cooling time. Plus as the stud comes out it fixes the threads, only works on aluminum heads though.

Happy Thanksgiving-- I have a few questions, when you do jobs like that have you ever tried using STAINLESS hardware or brass nuts? I had old Ford Fiesta and it needed a new cylinder due to cracks and bad valves so I got a recond. one and installed stainless manifold bolts, the old Fiesta was I think a Ford Cortina engine? That was many years ago.Currently I have a 96 Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 and it has a Dana 44-A- rear diff. not the normal 44. A= Aluminum, anyway I replaced the rear diff. cover with an aftermarket unit by a company called BTF, Blue Torch fabrication, its I think 1/8 inch plate and a very nice piece of handmade art but they include steel hardware not SS and since I change the diff. fluid usually every year or two I had trouble getting the steel allen screws and the angle sucks so when I changed the fluid I went to home depot and got some stainless bolts, no rust whatsoever on them or surrounding the cover, BTF is the only company to make an aftermarket cover for the 44AI HOPE you charged the customer for that job? Fixing something 6 years doesn't mean crap now, its like saying you replaced my alternator 6 years ago now it failed and I want a new oneYou make some great vids, yeah that NY rust sucks huh? I moved to NC and I see a 96 Jeep GC with no rust, mine has plenty of light scaling underneath but no even close to that pick-up
Love the intro. Damn cowboy don't you believe in wearing Welding leathers ? A nice pair of heliarc welding gloves wouldn't be a bad investment. Bacitracin works the best for burns. Love the idea with the brazing tip!!!!!!! Good stuff on this channel.
