Ford Escort RS Turbo Series One restoration..... where it's at and what's next!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I bought this car in 2020, and it was in a very sorry state. I've slowly been putting it back together. Everything that's been done on this car is by me and I'm completely self taught so be kind, I kind of make it up as I go along. Everything has been done in my garage, and yeah the paint isn't amazing but for now it only cost me a few hundred pound, so worse case in a few years I'll get someone who knows what they're doing to paint it :)
Also my 1st video ever so.......... who knows, I enjoyed making it.

Suscribed! There is never too many RS Turbo restorations, keep it coming! Tip: consider drilling a small hole on the underside at the lowest part of the body kit fenders, so that any water entering there can leak out instead of making a pool and rot again your sills.

Compared to more modern cars, there's not much to a series 1 - but this is still a mammoth task, that very few would attempt- I'd love to do my 32 gtr, but I KNOW it's too big a job for me My hats off to you - it looks great

Thank you, and yeah they're really basic, its just the time it takes to prep, clean and paint etc. Then all the costs - parts are fetching good money now never mind all the grinding disks and sand paper :)

I've cut up a series 1 RST, around 1998-99 a mate had someone do a floor and got carried away with the grinder hacking into rust that could have been saved if i could have helped before but the person doing doing the work for my mate had something go on in his life at the time so it needed moving immediately and the only way we could do it was to tow it to mine over speed bumps by rope, with half the floor cut out and some corner pieces like inner sill around the lower seat belt point both sides we knew it was game over moving it like that. still ruins me to this day and i even said it as i was cutting it up to sell it at parts value :(

I've just subscribed. The car looks really good. I owned one of these for 2 years from 1988 to 1990, it was a C reg. 1985 car. I absolutely adored it, I had it uprated to 165 bhp by Turbo Technics, it really flew. Unfortunately, the villains loved it as well, and it was stolen twice in 2 years, being written off the second time. The damage was minimal, so I bought the car back and repaired it to showroom condition. I had only had it back from the paint shop for 2 months, and one of my neighbours chased off 2 thieves trying to steal it again at 4 AM. I had had enough by this time, so I sold it, having paid £6500 for it I got £6250 back for it, so money-wise it was a great car but loads of hassle to own back then.

There is a mint 1 covered in tree sap, from Doncaster coming down the hill to malton North Yorkshire before Lidl series 1 rs it’s complete obviously white but owner seems to know it’s special or maybe sentimental, show him rite money he might part with it

I think there is a few sat on peoples drives that they will sadly never part with or get round to putting back on the road, when I bought this one the guy had others but was still a little unsure about letting it go.

Car looks mint I’d have been putting paint and a bit of waxoyl were you’ve drilled holes for body kit or it’s going to start rusting if it gets damp

thank you :) I thought the same after the 1st arch, all other rivnuts were dipped in primer 1st then put in place, I've been back over that back arch and dropped some primer in. plan is to paint around where all the rivnuts went under the archers and wax oil down the inner sills.

You lucky to find one as a mint one is very very silly money now but for sure it would of had a lot of welding I've never done a MK3 series 1 turbo but alot of other fords but you got to have deep pockets to rebuild it but fair play to it as looking like you not cutting corners with it but I bet it's was bodge right up 😮

Its unreal the costs for some of the parts for these cars now, I started keeping a log of how much I'd put into the car, then realised it was getting depressing so decided to just bin the list. Doing all the work myself has saved a fortune in labour, but if I had a pound for each hour I'd put into in...... there was lots of silicone sealer, fibre glass and badly welded patches when I pulled it apart.
