Lake Nyos in Cameroon, West Africa is known as the "killer lake" because it suddenly released a large amount of carbon dioxide in 1986, killing over 1,700 people and 3,500 animals. The release was caused by a landslide, and scientists believe carbon dioxide from volcanoes had been seeping into the lake for centuries.

I thought the same thing but after owning a Tesla and seeing it only taking 25 minutes to charge from 15%-85% I don’t have a problem I get the same amount of range as my ICE car but spend $35 less on charging each time. It is more inconvenient than traditional combustion engines however it isn’t so much time to where it’s a deal breaker. If I didn’t have a Tesla I think the experience would not be as nice especially with traveling. I have options to charge anywhere with a normal 110v outlet or a nema 14-50 plug at a camp site. Or charge stations that arent meant for Teslas since an adapter is included. It’s all preference but after owning an EV my opinion has changed drastically.

Lived in New Jersey for the first half of my life. Spent my high school years and a few years after pumping gas. It was the best job I ever had. Had so much fun hanging out working on cars and meeting girls, Our station was on the exit on 78 that went to the reservoir so we would get the girls coming in from the city to go swimming. Always thought pumping gas was a good entry level job for kids to get intrested in auto mechanics. Easy to bad mouth New Jersey. Here's my take, the people at Newark Liberty airport are the most thoughtful and helpful of ANY airport I have ever been too. The hotel transport driver we had was the coolest and kindest imaginable. The Hampton Inn next to the airport proved to be incredible and made our return to the States just what we needed. It's called the Garden State for a reason, (historically lots of fertile farmland, and agriculture is the dominant economic driver), and it has lots of green. I guess having the attendants pump the gas is just part of their helpful service orientation.

The price of Lexus vs Toyota parts reminded me of when I worked at an auto parts store back in the 80s. We had a guy come into the store to buy a new muffler for a Ford, the employee sold him a muffler for a Mercury version of the car, the guy came back because the muffler we sold him didn't have the mount for the required hanger. It appeared that the Mercury had a different hanger setup. The kicker here is that while Ford required the mount and the Mercury didn't, you'd think the one for the Ford would be more expensive because of the added mount but it was the one for the Mercury, which was the same exact muffler except it didn't have the mount cost about 10 dollars more and we had to refund the difference.

You should check out the DACIA SPRING, it´s basically the cheapest all electric car there is. It´s only about 14k with a range of about 200km and ca. 60HP. And you should check out the DACIA JOGGER hybrid. It´s a smaller station wagon for 25k with 140HP. You probably don´t have those in the US, but DACIA is the most sold brand in Europe, specially the smaller model called SANDERO. It starts at only 11k brand new. Their motto is basically to create a cheap somewhat reliable car with only the most necessary features. No bling at all.

In Richmond, BC, Canada, the gas stations are required by my city bylaw to have an attendant on duty who will provide full service to fill up your car, check oil etc. It's about 3 cents more per liter but you can still pump you own and most people do. The reason is around 80% of Richmond is an immigrant from Asia so they don't know now to pump thier own gas.

I don't have an EV, but was thinking it would be a good thing to buy, at some point, get some solar (on the roof) and charge a battery during the day, charge the car at night, and drive during the day. Driving long distances might not be perfect, but it seems like there are places that do have plug-in power out there Many EVs seem to get over 300 miles of range.). Maybe they are too expensive and people are scared of not having plug-in power everywhere, like gas stations, but they aren't everywhere either.

Scotty, there is synthetic everything for my car but synthetic gasoline and synthetic asphalt. Where are they going to dispose of the gas and diesel when they pump crude for just asphalt and tar so we can transition to EVs? Canada's government manufactures roadways, not batteries. Do they think that the transition to 'renewable energy' will be without lode-mining in the mountains in our backyard? They complained about fracking? EV-range is all about leaving town, but, mining for battery and conductor-metals actually threatens places like Banff.

Scotty...Imagine we lived in a world where all cars were EV's, and then along comes a new invention, the 'Internal Combustion Engine'! Think how well they would sell: A vehicle half the weight, half the price that will almost quarter the damage to the roads. A vehicle that can be refilled in 1/10th the time and has a range of up to 4 times the distance in all weather conditions. It does not rely on the environmentally damaging use of non-renewable rare earth elements to power it, and uses far less steel and other materials. Just think how excited people would be for such technology; do you think it would sell??
