Ford BA-BF XR6 Turbo Rebuild - Pulsar 3582R Drop-In CHRA, Turbosmart IWG75 & Pulsar Turbine Housing

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode we're replacing the core / centre housing rotating assembly (CHRA) on a stock BA XR6 Turbo Garrett turbocharger. We're doing this with a PULSAR drop-in core, teaming it with a PULSAR upgraded rear housing with a larger wastegate flapper, plus a Turbosmart IWG75 actuator. The fixings are getting a refresh, with new titanium studs and nuts used throughout, along with new engine mounts. Subscribe! youtube.com/@MotoringBoxTV?su...

There were a lot of parts used in this one - check the video description for product links! On low to mid boost the car is still driving the same, but that's mostly thanks to my Haltech running closed loop O2 control and adjusting the fuel to suit. In the next video I'll do some more testing with it, mostly to make sure the wastegate is holding 12psi (or thereabouts) and then setting up a MAC valve so the boost can be controlled properly.

I love your show. I find it very enlightening. The best part for me is that you present things in such a way that I understand it and feel I can replicate what you have done. I am inspired to tackle jobs that in my mind seem out of my comfort zone. Because you are someone who has a natural mechanical aptitude and yet no formal qualification as a mechanic, you inspire me to have a go as I figure if you can do it then so can I. Thanks very much for the knowledge you have given me. You are one of the best mechanical based channels on KZread.

Great video. While the turbo was out, you should have used locking tabs when bolting the rear housing to the turbo. Those suckers are notorious for coming loose. Over time, the heat of the turbo will anneal the bolts, then its impossible to keep them tight. It started happening to my fgx turbo sedan at around 70k. Pain in the ass actually

They can be stubborn. I've heard of using a mallet, but I decided another way which was a bolt that was the perfect length to wedge down into the space between the front and rear housing. Took it back out and threaded a nut onto it, wedged it in there and then used 2 spanners to hold the bolt/start undoing the nut. Worked a treat! Hope that makes sense.

The vibe with these new style of videos I find is so 'de-identified', for lack of a better word. It feels as if Sean has almost 'gone away' for a while, such that the work itself takes a more focal point in the production, rather than his personality. Intuitively, it seems his intention is to return at some point in the near future, 'reinvigorated' for further, perhaps more advanced automotive exploration. Do not get me wrong, I absolutely adore the new, slick editing style, which lends a much more professional air to the videos. I must also say to Sean if he is reading this - I do not mean to suggest that this is an inappropriate process, because, as you have noted, more important and personal responsibilities have captured your attention, i.e., 'personality' in recent times - I merely am intuiting a future 'explosion' of even greater success with this channel you have so lovingly created. Or maybe this is all just psychoanalytic crap. Keep it up Sean, great work.

As a creator you often can't win. If I spend more time in front of the camera there'll be 10 people saying to shut up and stop wasting their time, or saying how much they hate my voice. So you've gotta experiment with other ideas or styles from time to time. Some of the songs I used in this one were from video games that formed part of my childhood, and again some people don't appreciate that either. The easiest thing to do is just not film anything in the first place. 🤦

@@MotoringBoxTV Yeah man the songs are great - I don't personally have that nostalgia, but as I mentioned, the production style is sleeker these days. However, in a sense I do miss the previous, more vocal content that you mentioned being present in the previous productions, and perhaps that was one aspect I was indirectly pointing to. Anyway, once again, I love the videos, and the trend seems upward, so keep it up.
