    I have been in the repair business for better than 3 decades. I like your approach to the integrity if the "hard" parts. Your approach doesn't introduce veriables. Very cool!

    Thanks for the content. Getting ready to do a rebuild on my 64' Galaxie 500, and I knew the carb was some of this engine's woes. Hope mine doesn't need throttle-shafts that require bushings. My only missing part was that heat barrier plate near the thermo-ceramic choke assembly. They just aren't available any longer. Take care brother.

    at 26:55 the air horn gasket is backwards. The secondaries will have a vacuum leak like this.

    Proper idle speed, vacuum reading, proper fast idle, proper choke setting would be very appreciated in this video.

    GREAT JOB! I got one sitting on the shelf that is coming off and going on my 302. Thanks again for the clear video. What size primaries? Secondaries?

    The top gasket is backwards? The "bump" is on the secondary end, not the primary end. You can see it hanging off at 33:19

    tune up question -- my stock 64 fastback with 390 4 bbl Autolite 4100 carb -- when engine is cold I have to crank on it about 30/40 seconds before it will crank up. Once it's warmed up it will crank immediately but shut it off for 4 hours and the gas seems to disappear out of carb. I have the 1" water cooled spacer under the carb. Engine runs cool and runs great. It has a Mikes Carb repair kit in it (by far the best I've found in 65 years of doing this stuff.) Any suggestions?

    Very helpful - I just realized I forgot the ball in the accelerator pump on th eone I ma rebuilding thanks!! * At 22:31 when you are installing the floats -most 4100s I have worked on have thin springs that go around the float mounting shaft and have one long arm that pushes against the body so add some counterforce to the float. I think its to reduce bouncing of the float. I noticed your carb doesnt have those. In 2020 you can buy most of the replacements stuff off ebay so hurray!

    Interesting that the float bowls don't have the spring that a 2100 bowl has...I bought my 2100 from Checker Auto, rebuilt by Holley according to the tag on it, and it doesn't have the spring in it for the bowl(not brass), whereas I've watched a bunch of 2100 rebuilds and there's a spring there. Looks to be just a helper spring that pushes the bowl upward, thus putting more downward force on the needle.

    On your F100, what are using for your exhaust system? It sounds very good. Would you mind giving a breakdown of the system?

    +Armand Tomany I think the main piece is the nostalgia n271+ Comp cam in the engine. The truck just had long tubes with glass packs

    Is there any particular mistake you could make rebuilding the autolite 4100 that would cause the engine to chug black smoke at idle and run rich over the entire RPM range? That is the situation I am facing.

  • @ThunderHead289

    @ThunderHead289

    That sounds very power valve related - the power valve is vacuum operated, and when the power valve gasket or power valve diaphragm is compromised, fuel is then drawn into the engine via the vacuum source. Power valve would be the first thing I’d look into

    @@ThunderHead289 Wait, is there supposed to be a circular gasket put between the power valve and the carburetor body before you screw it down? That might well be it. I don't recall putting one on. I will definitely check. The power valve itself is a replacement from the rebuild kit, so I think that diaphragm is ok.
