Not true at all. The AU was preferred as a taxi because the inline 6 intech was the more compatible with LPG. The V6 Ecotec doesn't like running on LPG. Simple as that mate.

Actually that is where you are wrong it is because Ford marketed towards the taxi industry with deals and promotions Holden did not I know this because I was part owner of 2 taxi licenses until the government stuffed it but even today you actually see many VF Commodore and WN Caprice Taxis you don’t see many Ford taxis

The AU is an excellent car. I have had 2 of them, 1) 465 000km and still going as a paddock basher. 2) Currently 340 000km and drives beautifully. The VT is tinny, jumpy and flighty on the highway and people I know who have them are always in the mechanic. I see just as many AUs around as VTs which is amazing as they sold so many more VTs.

Would've taken an AU for my north Queensland fishing expeditions. The car that doesn't die 🍻

Some country bumkin jumped his AU, smashed the sump and you could watch the crank going round with no oil in it. The jump was so high I thought he'd break his back. Also he'd forgotten to switch the radiator fans back on; he proceeded to rev its nuts off' skidding around 'til it stopped. Later he restarted it and it stopped...he thinks it ran out of gas ! Video is on youtube... Is an AU tougher than a Hi Luxe ? !!

AUs are unstoppable, even with no oil or water. Intech 4.0 was a beast. Shame they were so ugly.

As a Mechanic the general rule of thumb I lived by was "Ford 6s are way better, Holden V8s are way better".
