This was information I needed thankyou! I am planning to do my water pump timingchain and tensioners some time in the near future I have around 87,000 on my 13 sho and figure I should do it before I have a failure I dragrace my sho regularly! I have a custom GearHead tune and a ton of supporting mods that makes around 450 to the wheels and over 520 torque! I can imagine it is putting a bunch of added strain on the timing system!! A have a manual but for me nothing better that seing it done!!

Hi Sir I don't have the special locking tools for my 2013 ford explorer 3.5 engine and am trying to replace my water pump. But I noticed something that made me stop to seek help before I continue. Immediately I took my timing chain off the left side phaser I saw the phaser turning, why is that. Have i damaged my engine? Need your help please.

On the vct housing there’s 3 nylon seal/o rings did you replace them? I’m currently putting everything back together but just wanted to check if anybody else has replaced them because I can’t seem to find any info on them. Or someone else has replaced them.

I apologize for the late response but it is extremely rare they would need replacement. They are not responsible for retaining oil pressure nor do they affect timing chain longevity.

Creative Automotive & Performance Solutions its no wonder they have a diagonal cut on all 3 of them I couldn’t figure why. I was able to talk to a ford tech and reassured exactly why I seen and also what you just mentioned. Taurus is on the road as we speak. Thanks subbed to your channel

I do these every week and it’s easy. Get your top marks all lined up on the phasers first then down and around the idler between the 2 sides put in your guides on driver side and tensioner guide. If your phaser and chain marks are lined up and your cams are correct on their timing the marks , with the crank shaft mark in the 5 o’clock position, the marks on the chain will fall into place if you put a little pressure on the chain with the pivot guide. All your slack MUST be on the tensioner side. If everything lines up I use my torque wrench and socket to slightly turn the crank clockwise to seat all sprockets to chain fully and pull the slack to the tensioner side naturally and pull your pin. Make sure tensioner is fully seated on the guide before putting cover on.

I have a 3.5l v6 in a 2019 Taurus. I changed the dreaded water pump and had thought I put the chain back correctly but it’s throwing the timing code now. My question is is there marks on all three sprockets (not counting the water pump) I have heard different answers some say yes there is and some say no I need to retime it

looks to me, it would be easier to install the ilder and the guides 1st then install the chain

The zip tie literally made things harder than they had to be. You need slack in the chain to squeeze the guide and tensioner arm in. The chain will usually stay on the timing marks anyway unless you man handle it. Also why did you drop the whole powertrain?

Noted! And because this car got wayyyy more than a new timing chain. I’d advise you to check out some more videos on the channel!

It is necessary to drop the engine????

@@oscarfranqui6678 No its absolutely not necessary to drop the powertrain. Pull the strut bar off on the taurus, or pull the wiper cowl AND strut bar on explorer. It's easy.

@@oscarfranqui6678 discharge AC, drain oil and coolant, then pull the air intake, upper intake, disconnect everything (coils, injectors, a couple grounds on the front of the engine, CHT sensor, bank 1 upstream oxygen sensor and move the whole harness out of the way, pull the coils out, valve covers off, serpentine belt, serpentine belt tensioner, and coolant bottle, then go down below, pull the crank pulley off, get a block of wood and a jack, or a jack stand with a block of wood, set the front of the oil pan down on it (you'll see the little flat spot on the oil pain) take the engine mount off, then you're gonna raise the vehicle (or lower the engine) to get the bottom 15mm timing cover bolt out because it will hit the body if you don't, then lower the engine back down and take all the other cover bolts out and voila, covers off.
