Ford 223 6 Cylinder

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Restoration of my 1955 Ford F-100. The first part of that project is complete. Engine was totally rebuilt and Clifford Performance Header and Intake were added. Engine hasn't run in 27 years.

Mr. Hassle Rumley had one of these in his 1953 Ford. We went to the same church when I was a wee lad that read car magazines and dreamed. Imagine my eyes getting big when he opened the hood of his car. We had no idea he was a hot rodder at heart. Mr. Rumley, R.I.P., got a big jolt up our respect of car guys after that view. His son has a 1956 Tbird, premium!!!! Blue blood runs deep!

I had a 1957 ford with a 223 6 cylinder a manual 3 speed with over drive a 4:11 rear. I could smoke them in 1st and 2nd get a chirp in 3rd. Great motor if they are rebuilt correctly. Love your dual exhaust

I run out of gears pretty quickly with my 3 speed. I must have close gear ratios, I love hearing stories like yours. Reminds me of my grandpa.

I had the same set up and I found with the weber I couldn't get the thing to idle correctly. I ended up switching it out to a autolite 2 barrel off a mustang 289 and it worked perfectly. This combo really warms a 223 engine up.

Nathan, I got the intake, header and carb from Clifford Performance. Bolted up real nice and sounds good. Haven't finished the truck yet but hope to have it done in the spring. If you do a google search for Clifford Performance it will come right up. Jim

I decided I'm going to put a 223 in my '59 F100. I didn't know until a few days ago that headers were available for this engine. A six sounds neat with glass packs. Until now the only ones I've seen are Chevy 235s with such a set up.

that is a later than 1955 engine (or head)...... the valve cover on a 55 has the bolts in the center at the top of the cover holding it down sweet engine ! most everybody chucks those motors & installs a v-8 glad to see one getting a new life

Hi, I'm rebuilding a 1956 Ford Customline with the 223. Will the header and intake work on a 1956 223 for a car and truck, or only a truck?

Are you still running a "Loadomatic" distributor? I have a 52 with a 215, and wanting to go with the setup but have heard a lot of bad things about the setup with a "Loadomatic".

If you like 215 and 223 Ford sixes, you should check out a Ford 262 a member of the same engine family.

Hello, I realize this is an older video, but what are your comments on how the added Clifford parts improved performance? Were you happy with it compared to stock?

@2muchtv is bad Thank you for the comments on your 223. I plan on doing the same to my 63 223. So many people pull out the six for a V8. Not me! I looked into the double carb setup, but for a cruiser I think the single carb is good enough. I will remember your advice on the headers. I am sticking with the standard three on the tree. What rear end gear ratio are you using for this setup? Thanks.

I have. 63 ford 223. How much power was an engine like this rebuilt able to produce? I am kicking around the idea of rebuild the 223 I have in mine and changing the gearing so I can get highway speeds out of it. Or just swapping in a V8 (obviously with some front end fabrications)

    Probably around 150 - 175hp. A 292/312 v8 is a direct bolt in though.
