i really love this movie. i think it is especially well crafted, the casting is awesome, it is full of details, but... this maybe wouldn't be my first choice in order to try out horror (and maybe not my second or third either). anyway, thank you for both your efforts! the reaction was almost more intense than the movie itself. i imagine it must've been like a rollercoaster (that gets really sad at points) 😅

The only PERSON that can cleanse your soul and cover all of your sins is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will receive the gift of everlasting life and shall never perish! Those who deny this TRUTH are still under condemnation! John 3:15-18 Do not be deceived by the occult as it seems you are as I used to be, RUN to the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in His gospel: the death, burial, and resurrection on the third day for our justification that we don’t deserve, defeating death so that whosoever believes in Him shall never perish but have everlasting life! The Italian saying "Traduttore, traditore" (translator, traitor) comes to mind. Aside from simple statements (e.g. "the car is red"), literary translations are necessarily rewritten versions of the original, since no two languages have the same set of words and connotations. Then there's just straight up removing or inserting things, which is sometimes a part of "transcreation"/localization but usually the mark of a hack.

I’m from the U.S., but I grew up in a state where a lot of Scandinavians settled, and am of Norwegian descent myself, and taking your shoes off when you enter someone’s house is very common here. I personally, was brought up being taught that you don’t wear your outside shoes in your own home, and that you were being considerate by taking your shoes off when you enter someone else’s home. After seeing this, I’d also love to see you guys react to the movie, The Descent sometime. But if you don’t want a movie like that right now, I’d really love to see a reaction from either just you by yourself, or both of you together, to a Norwegian movie called Trollhunter.

There’s so many excellent pieces of foreshadowing throughout this movie, it really is the kind of thing you have to watch it more than once. [Spoilers ahead] When Annie (the mom) goes to the group therapy session, she talks about her father dying when she was a baby - starving himself and hearing voices - as well as her older brother who killed himself and suffered from ‘schizophrenic hallucinations’ and accused their mother of “putting people inside him”. When you get to the end and it’s revealed the grandma was a member of a cult that worships Paimon, a king of Hell, and would regularly offer vessels to bring him into our world in order to gain great wealth. A thing to note is there are notes that reveal Paimon prefers a male vessel, that’s why the grandma wanted to get her hands on Peter, and the events of the movie happen to move Paimon from Charlie’s body to Peter. Looking back at Annie’s family, there was never any schizophrenia or hallucinations. Annie’s mom was trying to use her husband and son for the ritual to allow Paimon to possess them, and failed. She really did “put people inside him”. And the moment where Charlie says: “who’s gonna take care of me when you die?” is so much more horrifying on a second watch, when you realize she’s talking about the ritual at the end of the movie.

This is an amazingly crafted movie, a second watch is nice, knowing what it becomes and so much becomes clear, like when she's at the meeting, talking about how he brother killed himself, claiming the grandmother was "putting people inside of him", which we write off as mental illness, but later see that's very much the truth, she was trying to use him as a host for Paimon. Just like Joanies husband and son that drowned, preventing them being used. Even her own episode and the dream, saying how she tried to abort Peter, or accidentally set him on fire, all attempts to prevent him from being used as a host for Paimon. Just so much packed into the dialog that goes unnoticed on the initial watch.

How fun! I watch films from Iceland, Norway, Denmark, The Netherlands, from all over the world. They are all in their native language but with English subtitles. This one, I heard English and saw the foreign language subtitles. It was great! I thought “klar” was spelled “clar” and “Nei” was spelled “Nay” because that is what they sound like in the US. I love the film “The Boys”, which I think its original language is called “Jorgens”. It’s one of my favorite films. And I love “The Rift”, but I’ve not seen how it is spelled in its original language. There are so many good ones from that area of the world. I’m glad you watched this, but you thought it was scary? Sweeties… you haven’t seen “Autopsy of Jane Doe” (US,) “Talk To Me” (Australia,) “The Hallow” (Ireland,) and “Stake Land” (US.) There is a 3-season show from England called “Penny Dreadful” that I still binge watch! This was cool. I hope you stay away from the sweet, innocent Disney-ish movies. Keep adventuring out like you did with this one. And the one you’re going to watch with Millie Bobbie Brown is good. Not Great, but definitely worth a watch. 😊

I’m not sure where the “Americans don’t take their shoes off at home” thing comes from, but it’s always been that way for me as an American. Whenever I came home or visited a friends house as a kid, we always take our shoes off, and always done so as an adult. Same with my friends. Why do foreign people think we don’t do this? Or is it true and I just live in the few places in America where it’s common?

I had to comment on that also.. I wrote a mean comment lol. I had to because I'm sick of Europeans just assuming so many weird and odd things about Americans because they once heard an American did this or that so I guess that means all of us do it? My entire life I and my family have always taken our shoes off at the door along with my friends and pretty much everyone else I know.. like I said I don't know where they get some of the things they do about Americans..

Yeah, I love this movie, but it's an endurance test. Constant high tension and that trademark Ari Aster feature of showing you images you wish you hadn't seen with absolutely no warning so that you can't look away. He's a genius, and this movie is an instant classic, but it hurts to watch at the same time.

One of the horror masterpieces of modern cinema. The actors are brilliant, the visuals are sophisticated and already perfectly crafted, and Colin Stetson's hellishly beautiful score, composed mostly for wind instruments - remember that Paimon is known for his camel-riding trumpets and other instruments - gives this a perfectly put together piece of work. There are few films that are capable of having a physical, physiological impact on the viewer during and after the film.
