Force RC - How to: Dual Rate and Expo Setting for Air Transmitters
Today Pilot Luke dives into setting your Dual Rate and Expo for any new aircraft that you are binding. As he states in the video, it is important to check your airplane manual for any recommendations on Dual Rate and Expo and use that as a starting point. Thanks to Luke for the great video!

Thank you for your info……now I know how it’s done……..you are a great teacher
This was finally explained where I really get it. Really well explained. Thank you for making this presentation!!
Thank you sooo much, this was the BEST explanation video on DR/Expo!!! 😃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Learning how to properly set up dual rates and expo for each model is something every modeler needs to know.
Pilot Luke- you be the man! Best explanation of the concepts of D/R and Expo I have come across. I have a Spektrum radio so it was especially helpful. In the small club I belong to guys have there own way to set the D/R and Expo. They have a lot more experience than I do. I find my planes very very nervous at lo rates. Just as an example, I set one of my planes, a trainer (Nexstar) (all lo settings AIL, RUD and ELE) to 65% D/R and expo at 50% on the advice of a club member. I did not have the provided mesh speed brakes installed on the plane as I felt I had the experience to manage the plane. Was I wrong! The plane flew like a drunk monkey and it was a miracle that baby did not crash(brand new build). It was virtually uncontrollable and I had to back off that 46 OS motor to bring it back home. I did not fly it again that day. I was told the nervousness of the plane was due to the full length Ailerons. My personal belief was that it was the aggressive D/R and expo settings. Your choices appear to be much more sensible. I also flew a Superstar trainer with an OS 46 with identical D/R and Expo settings to the Nexstar. Same crazy experience. The guy then changed my Ail settings to D/R 85% and Expo to 58%.In other words he increased both D/R and Expo which in my mind made it much more twitchy as you say. I brought this plane home but again it was a very nervous bird. I can only conclude that these guys are either incredible pilots or they don't understand the settings. I personally feel the latter is closer to the truth. I would love to see you demonstrate radio settings for various planes. For example specific planes or classes of planes such as trainers, acrobatic planes and warbirds. This is badly needed. Please consider it. I am sure that I am not alone and with your gift at explaining things in a simple, easy to understand fashion, you would be just the man to teach this to dummies like myself. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. It was really helpful.
Easiest to follow explanation for beginners I've ever seen! Have you done any specific plane "Dual Rates settings" videos, (such as High Wing Beginner's Planes, Intermediate Pilot planes (Warbirds?), or, Advanced Pilot planes ? Just as impressive as your Dual Rates explanation, is your PVC multiple plane hangers (in the background at the beginning of your video). Great Job!
Best video on dual rates and expo, nice job. You earned a new subscriber with this video.
This is the best I’ve ever seen anyone explain it
Good explanation!! Guys who don’t use expo keep the hobby stores in business....lol
There is a lot of great information here! Thank you! Great video!
i always find these videos very informative thank you
Perfect instructional video. THANKS.
Awesome video on programming on D R & Expo
Thank you sir. Needed to refresh my memory and you did just that.

very helpful thanks
Thank you for the info :)
Informative video
liked it nice job!
Oh man, THANKS so much for the way you took your time and did the explanation of how to do the setup. Spektrum should hire you instead of the guy they have. Do you have more Spektrum radio tutorials? For a beginner your explanations are very easy to understand.
EXCELLENT INFORMATIVE VID THANKS BRIAN LONDON
Thank you
That's great thanks
great thank you
This is the best explanation of dual rates and exponential set up I've found so far on KZread. The only thing you didn't show is how exponential works on the airplane at the end of the video. You held the sticks at full deflection through all of the rates, which doesn't show how exponential works.

it's a little difficult to show that on a video. Expo merely decreases the sensitivity of the stick at the center.
nice great tips
nice and clear video. but......... D/R I do understand, it is the maximum movement of your elevator or rudder. But what does EXPO do?
What if u only have high & low rates & no middle?? Do I still need to put them on a 3 position switch or can I put ailerons, elevators & rudder on the same 2 position switch ??
Bad ass!
Always wanted to know on how to do this.
Very well presented. I've been struggling with this concept and you made it extremely easy to understand.
Hi I’m a newer pilot and have a valiant that has safe do I use duel rates and expo
awesome1
Cool
good tips I have 34 models and none fly the same so I different rates depending on model.
is it best to put all the different rates on a single switch or use 3 different switches for each control surface?....thanks

With a switch for each control surface, you're able better select that single surface while flying your plane; rather than changing all your control surfaces at once.
Great job man!!! Could you or someone give me a good expo. For the old hangar 9 edge 540 1.20 plane..book mention 70% expo for 3D flyer..but what about for sport flying..I heard bad reviews on this plane. I what a good maiden flight. Can someone give me a recommendation
I have a Spektrum DXe, and I will be using my phone to program it. Will these rates work for a 1200MM Spitfire plane? Awesome informational video, this will help me a lot.

RakinBill this will certainly be a good place to start. Does your manual have the dual rate recommendations listed for you? Most of them suggest dual rates in millimeters of travel. In this case a simple ruler will suffice. In the end, the actual percentages in the dual rates field won't matter if you are following the mm recommendations instead.

I purchased the plane used, but I will go to the manufacturer site, and see if they still offer a manual for my plane. I have a Dynam Spitfire Supermarine 1200MM, and it's in great shape, and it was a pnp setup, and I installed my Spektrum 6 channel receiver and bound it to the radio. Now all I have to do is get the specs, and set the radio up for the plane. Thanks for the reply.
Great video! At 4:07, you changed Expo from 0% to 30%. However, on the LCD display, you changed two values at the same time: (0% 0%) to (30% 30%). What's up with that? The same thing happened at 7:43 when you changed Dual Rate from 100% down to 75%, which was displayed as (100% 100%) down to (75% 75%). So, I downloaded the DX9 manual, which covers *D/R Expo* on page 26, but it doesn't help at all.

I think I got it. The radio shows 2 values for Expo (and also for Dual Rates) because each axis moves in 2 directions (LEFT/RIGHT or UP/DOWN) which can be adjusted independently. At 4:07 (adjusting aileron Expo), you could have held the aileron stick LEFT or RIGHT to adjust each value independently. Since you didn't touch the aileron stick, the radio adjusted the aileron Expo (LEFT and RIGHT) together.
Didn't know that
I’m sorry Spektrum, I meant to say the guy on Horizon Hobby’s utube channel does not explain his tutorials in a easy to understand way.

Big mistake - using a different transmitter - just state the settings is best, then we can all set our different transmitters ourselves. So 'just go into the main menu' translates as ' go somewhere you've never seen, and will never use'!
