Forbidden Planet was soooo ahead of its time. Visually and special effects wise, it was a stunner for its day. And of course, Robby was just awe inspiring to watch and look at even by today's standards. Truly talented and creative people were involved in the making of that classic film.

George Takei says that FP was made in the 50s which was not a time that sf & quality went hand in hand. Still we mustn't forget that out of that decade also came : The Day the Earth Stood Still,The Thing from Another World,When Worlds Collide,The Man in the White Suit,The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms,Donovan's Brain,20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,Invaders from Mars,It Came from Outer Space,The War of the Worlds,Them!,This Island Earth,Invasion of the Body Snatchers,The Incredible Shrinking Man.

"Robbie" was also one of the hosts of "Tronic Theater," in Virginia Beach in the mid 1960s. It was one of those one hour afternoon movies that use to have for "housewives." I knew "Robbie" from that before I ever saw Forbidden Planet.

George your wrong the 50's had the best sci-fi War of the Worlds. The Day the Earth Stood Still. When Worlds Collide,Destination Moon just to name a few. Today it's just all obvious CGI with heaps of explosions and no story or substance. Thank God for Blu Ray I can enjoy these old classics all over again.

The story goes that MGM ran out of funds for the finale..this is where the Monster from the id was not really shown blasting through the krell door . WE dont see exactly what happens to Morbius untill they cut back to him dying.. c

While several of those were in "color," that does not make them "quality" movies. Otherwise, with the exception of "Donovan's Brain" theses were quality movies that happen to be science fiction.
