If it smells like onion/garlic it is an edible allium (member of that family). One of the very few food I'm 100000% confident foraging. Scape is the word you're looking for to refer to the onion flowerstalk.

Thank you! I love learning of foraging recipes. I feel like that is where books fall short. I will definitely try that. I will pick some on the way home from work.

I want to know everything for food and medicine. My concern is I'm afraid I would get the poison version of everything instead. You give great descriptions. I would love to see super detailed pictures of the correct plants and they're poisonous opposites and how you can tell the difference. Basically what your doing just super clear pics

I went to college at UCO so I am familiar with the area. Arcadia state park has lots of foraging opportunities and if it hasn't changed you can enter through the equestrian trails for free off of 33rd. There are also lots of opportunities if you follow drainage culverts they often end up at hidden ponds especially in neighborhoods. if you go out to Deer Creek or the Guthrie area you can ask landowners if they would let you forage for the day and a lot will, if you say for the day and I like to give them a copy of my drivers license with my contact information just to hold myself accountable and make them feel at ease. my ace in the hole is telling them I will also pick up some trash on the way. Good Luck with your adventures!

Can you please better explain this and I will try and make a vid on this. I love the Fall and it is definitely coming. Where is your family from, so I have some context, and what is it you do with the trees in the fall?

I have not thought about it but I will consider it. There is always something you can forage no matter what time of year. Is there something in particular that you would be interested in learning about? Medical plants and herbs, Mushrooms and fungi, Fruits and berries, or Nuts... Let me know your thoughts so I can make some sort of a gameplan, then maybe someday I can devise a curriculum and start teaching.

Since you live in the city I will recommend two apps that you can download for free on your phone. I will put out a video about them in the next week or so. The seek app and the google app if you have an IOS phone it still works and all you do is take a picture and check one app against the other before putting anything in your mouth.

so is snake root , the same as echinacea?

  • @-10ranch

    @-10ranch

    2 жыл бұрын

Good Eye! Yes it is one of the species in the Echinacea genus. There are many different "Snakeroots." They are called Snake root because back in the old days their roots were used to treat snakebites in some way or fashion. This is either Echinacea simulata or Echinacea sanguinea their ranges overlap here and are difficult to tell apart but both give roots with medicinal properties. as far as the medicine that everyone is familiar with as Echinacea it is made from multiple parts and sometimes multiple plants from this genus and I am unfamiliar with the actual process.
