Thanks for the recommendation. It defintely is a great release (better than anything on TesseracT's New Album in my VERY humble opinion). Feel like the new album is a TAD overrated. Sure Dan is showing off his vocal chops but nothing really interesting is happening other than that. Guitars riffs are kind of elementary, no real time signature changes, and Jay's drumming is less polyrhythmic. Altered State is definitely their strongest release by far and personally speaking I prefer Ash's vocals to Dan's. Shame he couldn't sing live. Alright hot take over. Lets enjoy some music!!!

I know I'm a little late to the party, but absolutely @ChaseCarneson needs to hear this Proggy masterpiece. If he's impressed with Daniel's vocals on Legion, he stacks up to Genaddy in Let the Truth Speak so well. Also the title track for War of Being, it's TesseracT's Magnum Opus.

@@archiemage interesting opinion, thanks for sharing. I personally find the release to be a step back in all regards (themes, writing, pacing, structure, mixing) EXCEPT for Dan's vocals. Altered State is my preferred album.

So cool to see people reacting to this song. Even us Tesseract fans were pretty blown away by this track. Dan has always been an amazing singer, but he really reached a new level on this album. I've been listening to it more and more for the past week, really finding something powerful and uplifting in every song. Usually the big "WOW" songs aren't my first choice for people who are unfamiliar with a band. I feel like the "WOW" can't be fully appreciated if you aren't aware of what the band is, what they sound like. But this track works, somehow. I'd play this for anyone. As for the next one, you could probably do War of Being. There's a reason it was the first single from the album. But older tracks are so representative of their style too. Concealing Fate, Nocturne, and Tourniquet all have nice videos and they're all a little different.

The new album is one of their best. Everyone contributes and pushes their sound to new levels in this. It’s really noticeable with Dan’s voice, but everything just sounds huge here. Edit: I would totally encourage you to listen to Tourniquet. Not just my favorite Tesseract song, but one of my favorite songs ever.

Nailed it describing technical talent vs. solid song writing decision making in the creative process. Bands that can do this are also my favourite. It's restraint and prowess in the right places that makes a well 'designed' song.

I think it makes most sense to listen to their latest record. Legion here is likely Dan's best performance ever with Tesseract, but the other songs do have quite something to offer too. The title track is the most epic of the bunch, 11 minutes of both heavy and athmospheric music with alot of progression and a powerful ending. Natural Disaster is the heaviest track of the bunch, but it also contains a nice rhythmic last section with layered vocals. Echoes could be interesting since it is kind of Tesseract's attempt at a radio-esque song (not intentionally, but the closest they will get to one) since you mentioned when technical bands hide the technique. The song is still very technical, but I would say to an average listener could be very digestable. Lastly I'll mention Tender, my personal favorite of the album. Very calm and athmospheric intro, then the song gradually increases in intensity, ending on a very heavy djenty section. Personally it's the first half of the song which really makes it so good, the second part is there to sort off "snap" you of the calmness. It's a plesant dynamic. The rest of the songs are good too, but those would be the best ones imo. PS: Awesome reaction all around, I really agree with the point of not flexing one's technical prowess all the time. Can make the music feel overwhelming or boring.

Oh I hope you react to the rest of the album 🙌 especially the title track! Ps - to your comment at the end to “give you more”. Honestly, this entire album, start to finish. It’s a concept album, tells a rich story, and is just so sonically coherent. A real masterpiece. Their catalogue is rich, surely. But they’ve really done something wonderful with War of Being.

I clicked the notify button faster than I ever have before. There's a couple of tracks off of this record that I think you would absolutely adore, but the first single of the album (War of Being) is an absolute monster of a track with an incredible video. The track takes a little bit of their entire discography and turns it into a single 11 minute power-house of a song. It also shows off characters that take part in the story of the album. For some other tracks: Tender, Burden, and Sacrifice off of the new album are fantastic. From other albums, I'd say to find their "Portals" album. It's a live recording (on a sound-stage) that covers their entire discography up to the point of its release, and the quality of the recording is absolutely ridiculous.

Perfect reaction, man! I definitely felt that vicariously. Mimics my first reaction to hearing this. Chills up and down my spine, especially when he goes off vocally, and the music then crescendos with the combination of the clean/fry vocals. This one has and will continue to be on repeat for quite a while. As a fan, I think this is one of their best, along with their title track. As for suggestions, I recommend "Tourniquet", "King", and pretty much any of the "Of Matter-" tracks off of Altered State. Look forward to the next one! 🤘

Hey Chase! Your joy comes through in your reactions and it's something I truly enjoy. In terms of further exploration of TesseracT, one of my favorite projects is Portals which was a live studio recording released during the pandemic. It captures the rawness of the band in a live setting....very powerful. I would recommend Concealing Fate, which is the band's first masterpiece and will give you a sense of their trajectory. Cheers🤘

The entire album is pure bliss. Their best album so far. And yes, Jay Postones's drumming is just completely masterful. That section he plays on the ride cymbal's bell is subtle but very complex - playing some kind of groupings of 3 on the cymbal, and 2 on the snare. Just whack but amazing.

I rarely request reactions because I'm usually interested in seeing wherever you go next on your own + from other's input, but I just came across a track that I think you would have a really good time picking apart a bit. Seemingly simple structure and melodies at first glance but the more I listen to it, the more I appreciate the choices and subtleties...the song is "A Secret Door" by the band "Avatar". It has a very well choreographed and visually laid out video to go along with it :) Hope you're able to check it out.
