    With the recent release of Stuka Joe's Solo CDG Method published by GMT, it would be really cool if you could play this game using that system. I've tried it for a turn or two and thought the system gave CDGs the mystery that is missing when you play it with full knowledge of both hands.

    Thanks for doing this video, Mark. I appreciate how you break down various possible hands for each side, as well as showcasing some maneuvers of forces and gaining control of states. If you do any more videos for FtP, it would be good to see some examples of river and naval moves (with combat). One minor note: your pronunciation of "cavalry" sounds an awful lot like "calvary" which is an entirely different word. ;) Keep up the good work! You make some excellent historical games.

    @@markherman50 Hello Mr. Herman. I'm sorry, I do not know. There are many videos on KZread that allow automatic subtitles to appear in English and even in other languages such as Spanish. Anyway thanks for your answer and for your work designing games. I'm really enjoying playing "For the people" although I still have some doubts. Cheers

    Two points, in the heat of battle some things get overlooked, even by me. At around 27 minutes there is a battle for Louisville, I stated that Fremont had a +1 die roll (drum) modifier, which is incorrect. He had a +2 drama and won the battle outright. It had not impact on the final position, but it was a mistake. In addition in turn 2 AS Johnston forces Fremont (there may be a theme here), where Fremont retreats with 1 SP onto a CSA political control marker, which would eliminate the SP, so Fremont would end up in that space with 1 not 2 SP. C'est la guerre...

    I really enjoy these videos, Mark, and I know they're a lot of work for you. But I'd like to see more FTP videos, if not from you then from someone else addressing middle game and end game strategy, kinda like what John Steidl did for Empire of the Sun. Also, when Fremont crossed the Ohio River to attack A.S. Johnston in Louisville (around the 26:40) mark, this may have been a good point to talk about how river control and how it affects crossing. In this case, it didn't but it might not have been a bad idea to talk about it.

    Just picked up the game and looking forward to the play with its use of the cards bringing a broader dimension. As a Kentuckian, however, it’s Lebnun (2 syllables), Lullvull (2 syllables), Frankfert. :-)

    Still playing your great game quit a bit. We developed a house rule that you might find interesting. We really like the McClellan bonus rules. From my readings (primarily The Gleam of Bayonets by James Murfin who is obviously a huge Lincoln fan and didn't care for McClellan) I think McClellan's ability to go offensive is beyond bad. Our house rule is that McClellan can only do a land activation on a campaign card or by an op q that brings him to four. This also sort of counters his bonuses a tad. As the rules are normally there is no reason ever to replace McClellan which historically is just not the case.

    What is the reason BTW for putting the fort over the units?? don't you find that you need to check to remember troop SP total? i play mostly on vassal where it is common to simply offset the fort marker half way off of the space in a diagonal direction which works great for keeping the SPs visible but wouldn't work that great in table top. one thing I always struggle with in live gaming of different titles is how to array counters of units, fortifications and generals and other status markers on a map to make the most amoutn of info accessible at a glance. would love to hear your take.

    Excellent work. I'm coming back to this game after several years. One question though: around 24:14 you minimize the risk of taking the SP out of Dover, yet if I understand the rules right, if the US has a 3-card they can hit Dover with an amphibious with the 2 SP in St. Louis and pretty much guarantee a victory there and control of the two rivers. Am I missing something?

    It could go as you say, but you have to float some risk. If you worry about what the enemy has and not what you want to accomplish you have lost the initiative.

    Certainly not meant as a dig to VGs ACW just a statement of fact that is also true in at least two other designs I can think of.

    Hi there. First of all, great video! Many thanks! I would ask you something: In some moments of the video (like minute 1:06:28) you say that a 3-1 ratio battle gives a +1 DRM. But in the rules says that this is a +2! Is that a change in the rules in the last version? Thanks!

    Been playing the game about four times a week for almost two months now--We have established a house rule that major campaign cards are demoted to minors. These cards are just too powerful. Have you had any other comments along this line?

  • @markherman50

    +tom clark Folks should play the way they have the most enjoyment. Every so often there is some commentary, usually around only permitting one campaign card play as an event per turn, but after 16 years it still remains an outlier case. At the World Boardgaming Championships it has in the aggregate resulted in about a 50/50 win loss record for the two sides. As I said, play it the way that maximizes your enjoyment.

    Is this game viable for solo play?

  • @markherman50

    @markherman50

    +Jaundiced Jape Yes and no, it does not have a solo system and given that the cards in a human game are hidden information, it is not the same experience. That said, I find it enjoyable to play solo which I do often.

    Mark, I really enjoy this subject matter and the way this game ties events to the activities occurring on the map and would like to give it a try. I do however play primarily solitaire games. I was wondering how you personally address the knowledge of what is in the other side's hand when making decisions? This came to mind I believe when you were explaining the operations queue around the 33:30 mark. How do you implement a strategy such as that when you "remove the fog of war," so to speak and you know the intent behind playing a certain card? Do you deal or play the cards in a different sequence? Thanks.

    Piotr Derengowski The problem with some questions is I answered it out of context. If the CSA or the USA plays Forward to Richmond as an event, the Union has to advance on Richmond. However, if the Union is holding the Forward to Richmond card they have a choice whether to play it as an event or as an operations card. I will check, but in the video the Union held the card and it is permissible in this situation to build a fort or any other activity, such as activate a 1 rated Union leader with this card.

  • @piotrderengowski2435

    @piotrderengowski2435

    Thanks for a clarification. I thought that the Union always has to play it as an event.
