Ойындар

Hey guys! Today we're playing the latest Warhammaer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War DLC, Adeptus Mechanicus! Can I just say, I can’t tell you enough how much I *love* that you say it as “skitar-ee-aye” , I always thought that was how it was supposed to be said, plus it just sounds so much better

I was literally just thinking earlier "man, I wish Janet on Occasion would to an AdMech video for Gladius", but none was up so I started watching other stuff. And just as I was about to turn my PC off and go to sleep, lo and behold... here we are. Cool! I look forward to this.

French "woof woof" is "ouaf ouaf" but apparently "ouah ouah" exists as well, although I've never heard it

Standard speed may seem "slow", but it really isn't--not when you get the turns down and you're in a rhythm. It's like chess, once you get a feel for good positioning, and are able to move your units very quickly, but methodically. In fact, you should actually not move your units at all, on some turns, especially in the early game. Not when the wildlife is "frothing and churning" in front of you. (It's even beneficial to turn off over watch, depending on the neutral--since some will not engage unless attacked first.) in truth, the number one skill required to play this game well is "patience". I watch so many videos of people who tear around the map with their early units, and they all get slaughtered by the neutral wildlife ... which, if I'm honest, is kind of funny. If they would just take a step back, breathe a little, group their units up, and take a turn off for injured units to heal, etc., they would have a much easier time of it. On standard speed, you can be more methodical this way, and not lose a single unit. On faster speeds, you're just goaded into making mistakes. I've played countless games as Astra Militarum/IG, which, in my opinion, is the best "teaching faction", as it forces the player to be more strategic with their units. If you're playing a faction with fragile units (Imperial Guard, Eldar, and Ad Mech, as of this writing, etc.), you need to keep your units together as you move them around the map; separating them is a lose-lose scenario, because you *will* lose units that way, especially if you're moving into fog of war without vision. Only after you have supporting vehicles (i.e., chimeras, duneriders, sentinels, etc.) can you start to be aggressive. I think many people start off by playing Space Marines, which are very strong in the early game, and they get used to playing the early game with a bit of recklessness. Tactical Space Marines, with their 8 armor, 2 range, bolter damage, etc. are "tanks" compared to the starting units of "fragile factions", including the current implementation of Ad Mech. Vanguard are hilariously fragile (even Guardsman start with 4 armor), and it's worth noting that, in the upcoming 1.9.1 patch, Vanguard have had their armor buffed from 2 to 6 ... that's an increase of 32% damage resistance (48% total), which is crazy, but not unexpected, since the meta, on release, (using Sulphurhounds instead) was basically pushing for bypassing vanguard altogether. Now, they might even be useful without a Dunerider to carry them into battle. At 23:04, you praise the "fast" speed setting after getting your units wrecked by neutrals, when, in actual fact, I would argue that it was the "fast" speed settung, and impatience, that got them wrecked in the first place. Well, that, and the fact that they're hilariously fragile. In truth, I had to play a few openings for Ad Mech before I realized that, without a dunerider, vanguard are very difficult to use, and can only move in tight packs. Range 1, on an armor 2 unit, with no move-after-action mechanic is incredibly weak. The faction's design is built around the "hero" units, so it makes sense that the supporting infantry aren't as powerful as typical infantry--but, damn, vanguard are weak. When I saw you running them around the map, chasing after kroot, etc., I shook my head and said, "Welp, this isn't gonna end well." :)

Ouah is a french word that is similar in use to wow but I think there are onomatopoeias for woof that are 1 or 2 letters off of it

Afaik, the doctrina/canticle dualism is an effect of the AdMechs intial release as two (mini) factions: Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii.

Little note, Latin did not have a ‘v’ sound. They were pronounced like modern ‘w’s.

This is true for Classical Latin, but with the Gothic architecture that everything human in the 40k universe uses I think it's pretty clear that we're meant to cue off Medieval/Church Latin, which does pronounce a 'v' sound.

Any assumption on how anything was pronounced 2000 years ago is frankly ridiculous. What is more accurate is that some stuffy academics very recently decided that was the rule and some equally stuffy people decided to follow it. Hell, there's an entire character in Monty Python's Life of Brian with a horrendous lisp purely to make fun of this fact. I find being understood far more important than being "right", anyway :P
