We're so excited to show you this beautiful Victorian Fixer Upper in the super cute city of Granite City, Illinois. The really great thing about this beautiful home is that it retains all of its unpainted woodwork and hardware.
This home sits on a lovely street with period homes surrounding. As soon as you turn down the street, you feel like you've gone back in time.
With some minor cosmetic work and a little cleaning, this would make a glorious family home.
Remember, we are not realtors and will not get commission for selling this home. We just hope to find great caretakers for these historic homes and ensure they're still around for future generations.

There’s a reason it’s so cheap though. Location, location, location.
Whoever designed and built those dust catchers is a genius! How have we gone so backwards when it comes to craftsmanship and quality?

Consumerism, consumption, and cheap has been the new sheriff in town (for decades now). I'll do my best to get my friends to jump on the "slow down" train. But I think the fact that only around 50% of people returned to office post work-from- home life gives me hope. The 9-5 rat race is OUT. Enjoying life, family, friends, and a healthy work life balance is IN. Thank GOD. Money isn't everything. I think my generation is fully happy to embrace a different way of living. We're getting tired of the work, work, work for the big man, living a life of anxiety, and more or less always being on call due to cell phones and new technology way of living. It has been shoved down our throats and utterly unnecessarily so. I mean, for what? To pay off our student loan debt that we'll have years to come? Yeah, over that lie. Whoops went on a rant. Sorry about that. Anyway, the Winchester mansion has the corner dust catchers, too.! So cool!

Craftsmanship (finish carpentry) like this doesn't come cheap and the number of craftsman who can do it at this level continues to dwindle.
On Zillow, this home was sold on 12/29/23 for $18,000.00!! Amazing home!

Looks like it's for sale again! But at a much higher price.
All that woodwork left unpainted? Praise the Lord! So many unique and charming details. What a beautiful home!

I guess you could say that it's likely a combination of it having lighter stain than most other turn of the 20th century and probably the original owner lived there until death.
My fiancé and I recently purchased a Victorian home (1891) in the little village of New Hamburg in Ontario, Canada. It is probably ~90% original (has new windows and some other upgrades), and our stove is even a replica of an old wood burning stove (with a matching fridge). It's quirky (e.g., dipping floors and uneven walls), but it's beautiful :D. I will make a video one day and post it :). I love watching these videos!
That's how we got our 1840's Italianete with an 1880's Victorian porch. We bought it 16 years ago because it needed lots of work at a great price of $99,700. We renovated the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room downstairs before we moved in. Then 10 years ago we renovated the upstairs bathroom. Now we're doing foundation, new duct work, and restoring the original porch. There is lots more to do but we're doing it as we have the cash to. Hopefully in a year we'll be able to replace the 2nd furnace, hot water heater, and reglaze the original windows.

My hubby and I have been working on our 1916 farmhouse since we bought her in 1993. We also have been doing it as we have had the money and the time. Ours needed so much work. It scared everyone from buying it. Even our realtor! He tried to talk us out of buying it. But I love our home way out in the country. And I know the house picked us. She knew we would make her beautiful. I don't think she has ever looked as good as she does now. Not even when she was first built. As she was a working farmhouse way out in the country. No roads in to our valley till the mid 1950's. No electricity or plumbing till then either.

A tip that will help you save money..... Buy your ac equipment online and save thousands. You can always find an HVAC tech that willing to install it as a side job. I do this for my rentals and I have saved about $40,000 over 4 Year's

@@johngatsby1473 thanks, we do get a great deal on the hvac stuff because that's what my uncle does. Also my dad is a jack of all trades and is helping us with a lot of the repairs we're doing. So we're just paying for cost of materials.
You had me at the stairs ! No more needed. What beautiful wood. You are right that’s the selling point . Well darn, just checked, it’s under contract and sold. That was a beauty.
What a beautiful house and how lucky that so many original features are still there. Gorgeous woodwork. I hope someone buys it and gives it the love it needs to make it another 100 years. Thanks so much for another wonderful tour.

Hey so good to see you in Southern Illinois! That’s in my neck of the woods and my husbands family lived in Granite , as we call it, for a long time! What a nice home to give some TLC too! And so close to St. Louis and all that it provides for a new historic home owner ! Wonderful!
Girrrll you don’t have to apologize for how you’re dressed! You always look fabulous. Ignore those trolls in the comments section.
Oh wow! I LOVE this home. In great shape for it's age. If I were young again, I would be all over this one!

In a world where McMansions rule, this home just makes me weep. How gorgeous! Thank you so much for all your videos. Lord, why wasn't I given the bank account to match my love of these beautiful homes?
Oh My Stars!!! I love those dust catchers! She is a Beauty! And theRose of Sharon in the front yard Love Love Love it!!! Thanks you guys!!!💋
This is a gorgeous house!!! The staircase was enough for me to fall in love.
Lots of drool when you were showing reverse painted wood work!! Gorgeous house. ❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing the gorgeous homes and loving them with the respect they truly deserve.
THIS HOME IS A DREAM
Those dust catchers are great! This house is amazing, the woodwork and the fact the I don’t think I saw one crack in the walls is amazing. This is the perfect first time rehab home!
I almost cried when you showed that unpainted wood entry stair! The doors hardware is so lovely❣Oh, if only I were 25 years younger! I love her💕
Thanks Laine for your most excellent voice over tour of this lovely house. (And, I assume, thanks Kevin for the camera work)
Definitely worth the wait! The front porch is wonderful. There’s a lot of room in that house.🌸
I could swear this home is a Geo Franklin Barber designed home. ❤it!
I have seen those little dust catchers in restoration catalogues. They are brilliant and I have no idea why they went out of use.

What a lovely home! I have been in and out of Granite City all of my adult years, but never seen or could imagine a beauty like this. That area is mainly a steel manufacturing town. Love this house. Thanks for the tour!
I'll rent a room for a few of my friends, we usually arent there all at the same time. Thats the feeling I get just looking at this house.
I love all the fabulous woodwork! What a gem this house is ❤️
Oh, my, my heart raced seeing this one. Simply stunning. Thank you, team Restoration. :)
Absolutely gorgeous of a home. I can’t believe in a 120 yrs no one ever painted the woodwork. That’s unbelievable in its self. You don’t see many homes even then to have those dust catchers in stairs… so cool. I was born in Illinois but I don’t think I could ever live through a winter there but that beautiful house is tempting. Loved it all. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍
All of that unpainted wood is a thrill to see! Imagine the hundreds of hours it would take to strip it all if it was painted. >:0 Hopefully, by Laine and Kevin featuring it here, true restoration folk will take over and bring it back to it's original splendor. Those little extra room spaces on the second floor are intriguing. I wonder if there was a nursery, or a maid's room. The possibilities are endless! Viking here too...Great-Grandmother born in Norway and Great-Grandfather's family from Denmark. They met in Wisconsin. I have their original fancy 1883 wedding certificate.
I am drooling! Maybe it's time for a move to Illinois!
This is a gorgeous home. A real treasure, and a manageable size to finance restoration. I hope she found the right steward.
omg, she's beautiful! 🥰i LOVE all that never-been-painted wood! 🤎 the stairs, the mantel...the floors! 😊 i just wish it was on some land in a more rural setting. sigh! 😍thank you for the tour! ❤
What a precious lady! I love her 😍
I just closed on a 1916 home with alot of these same features, except it has been well maintained and updated. These homes are gorgious.
Thank you Laine for giving us this lovely historical and architectural tour. I look forward to your our shows and have learned so much! ❤
If that house was here in Florida, it would be perfect to me to purchase and rehab. First thing to go is those tacky satellite dishes!
A beauty. And I love when a lady dresses for comfort rather than to appear “appropriate “.
What a beautiful paradise....absolutely love this home with all the magnificent style and unique features.....and that porch.....be still my heart 🕊️💗
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing her with us! 😊

My goodness this house is freaking stunning!!!!! Gah. I kept gasping at every turn, all the cute nooks and cranny and fixtures. I dream of it. Also, Laine, your shorts are my favorite and I love them. Sorry Kevin is dripping sweat.
She certainly is a beauty. I have such an appreciation for the construction and styling of years gone by. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this tour. I would paste a smile on that stained glass window for the children's playroom. Frowning window makes for years of therapy. ; ) Gorgeous home! Amazing wood & hardware. I would love to see it again after renovations occur.
The way I happy squeaked when I saw there was a new video!!! I've already liked it, can't wait to watch. 💖

@@OurRestorationNation yes people who have average wealth normally try to find something livable, especially if they don't have parents nearby with extra bedrooms.
This house is almost the exact same house that my sister used to live in!! We live in Ohio, not Illinois. I was so confused in the beginning, cause I kind of thought it was her house!! Amazing!

Incredible staircase.
Fabulous house with an oasis as a backyard.

I am sure this home was sold fast ! The house is very hood condition . This can be someone's dream home , with a growing family . The price is very good and even you out $ 200,000 in revocations into the house , itnwould be far more once everything cleaned , fixed and remodeled ! This house is an investment !
Love that woodwork. Hope someone gets it and restores it to is former glory

It's already under active contract. Although often you can put in a back up offer in case the current contract fails to close.
Murphys oil on the woodwork will look like the day it was installed.
Wow beautiful house thank you for sharing
