TL;DR It's split second decision making. Unfortunately, lights are very quick, so the chances you're already going to have your guard on the side they attack from are extremely low. The best way to work around this would be to bash/gb or throw heavies in the hopes they parry what they think is a light, as they won't have time to feint and parry again before being hit.
