"For Beginners" Series | Lecture 5: Abdus Salam for Beginners

Ғылым және технология

For the world of modern particle physics, Abdus Salam is one of the heroic figures of the 20th century. Pervez Hoodbhoy explains in simple terms some of his achievements. But what sort of a person was he? And why does Pakistan not acknowledge its only top-level scientist?

Dr Abdus Salam dedicated his Nobel Prize to his teacher in India, who taught him mathematics before the partition. Dr Abdus Salam had told *Professor Anilendra Ganguly,* “ This is your prize Sir. It’s not mine .”

After winning the Nobel Prize in 1979, he had requested the Indian government to find Professon Anilendra Ganguly, who had taught him mathematics in the pre-partition era at the Sanatan Dharma College in Lahore. Salam had credited Ganguly for instilling the interest towards mathematics in him, which, he believed, led him to become a scientist.

Prof Hoodbhoy incorrectly suggested abstaining reading Ahmadi authors since they will be biased. Reality is the opposite. Ahmadiyya Jamaat exercises an extremely modest approach to recognise all of its community member's contribution in society without exaggeration or flattery.

You can go and check the archive for Nobel Prize nomination. If you nominate someone today it will be made public 50 years from now. Weinberg presented his paper in 1967 and Salam in 1968. Science does not teach morality. It does not teach how to behave with your parents, relatives and other people.Science can not address questions of humans which the religion addresses. No one wants to go to hell, but soul goes somewhere automatically after our death. We do not want to die,but our heartbeat and breath is in the hand of someone else. There is someone who is controlling universe like rising of sun on exact time, changing of season, conversion of day and night, birth and death of humans etc.No one will get Hoors except those who lead life according to teachings of Creator and Owner of whole universe.Religion is a knowledge given by God to humans, while science is a knowledge obtained by humans through observation and then experimentation in laboratory.Science is incomplete and is changing day by day,While religion is same since 1450 years.Quran is same as it was revealed without any change. The killing of humans is not part of any religions.Only a law of country can decide about killing a person. The world can not survive without violation because it is part of human nature.1.5 crore people were killed in WW1 and 5.5 crore people were killed in WW2.One crore twenty lac people were killed in Russian War.You and I will also die one day because any breathing creature can not stop itself from dying, whatever may be the cause of death like disease, killing or old age.

the main feature currently evolving in humans is objectivity. humans of the 1st world have over thousands of years evolved objectivity as a permanent feature, while the third world has been trying to evolve a society free of objectivity. nehru tried to make india adopt objectivity as it existed in the 1st world. indians are now strongly following the opposite path. pent up biological pressure far exceeds the personal pressure of nehru. we might generalise tentatively that the fruit of thousands of years of separate evolution cannot be transplanted instantaneously by just making a copy from the 1st to the 3rd world. in this matter pakistan is far ahead of india. it has physically eliminated diversity and has achieved near absolute conformity, with total elimination of objectivity. rats leaving the sinking ship has also proceeded quite vigorously. all this appears to have caused its downfall. india remains highly divided and is still standing. as it is a divided, democratic, diverse, largely uneducated, non conformist society, the probability of total elimination of objectivity is far less in india than it was in pakistan. in a manner of speaking, divided we stand and united we fall. finally the lesson is that there are no free lunches, even in human evolution of such an obviously useful feature as objectivity.

Indian Government spends barely 3% of GDP on Education, whereas in Developed countries this data is more than 6% , India's gross expenditure on R&D ( Research & Development) is just 0.65% of its GDP, significantly lower than the top 10 economies that spend 1.5-3% of GDP on research and innovation.

@@priyanka4336 Caste system is developed due to imbalance in wealth, education, color etc. among the people. It is present everywhere in the world. You can study about how black Africans are considered inferior and are killed in America. You can study the behaviour of current India towards minorities. However, our religion,Islam does not promote caste system like Hinduism.Hazrat Bilal(Black companion of prophet)was equally lovable to the Muslims like white coloured people. There is no quota of any caste in any institution of Pakistan.Quotas are for people of backward areas, minorities (Hindus,Sikhs,Christians) and disabled.

@@priyanka4336 In Pakistan, there are also reserved seats for elections in minorities .On these seats, only a person of that community can become representative.Ahmadis also get seats in elections.First thing Shia are not minorities.According to our constitution, any person who believes in one Allah and considers Prophet Muhammad as Messenger of Allah is a Muslim.Shias also have the same belief and are Muslims according to constitution of Pakistan as well as according to teachings of Islam. So,shias are not considered as minorities in Pakistan. There is no Shia sunni according to our book,Quran.Quran connects all its believers without any difference. All Zardari family is a Shia.Ahmadis are now declared as minority according to constitution of Pakistan. Ahmadis and other minorities can vote in Pakistan. No one is deprived of vote in Pakistan. You are talking about destroying worship places. This is common in all Indian subcontinent by making some excuses.Hindu extremists also destroyed Babri mosque. As far as festivals are concerned, everyone is free to celebrate his festival.According to constitution of Pakistan, Pakistan is an Islamic country.More than 97 percent of people are Muslims. It is written clearly in our constitution that no law can be made against the teachings of Islam. It is against Islam to make non-Muslim head of islamic state according to teachings of prophet. It is not allowed in Islam to celebrate festivals of non-muslims.However,we can not forbid any person to practise his religion or celebrate his festival.Your country is a secular country and follows secular law.Read the 1973 law of Pakistan to know about the law of Pakistan.
