Cornell and Stone wrote "Times of Trouble" with Temple of the Dog. Same chords & progression but different lyrics. After Stone formed PJ with Jeff and the rest of the gang, Ed changed the lyrics and the song became "Footsteps". Both songs are excellent and if any of those guys ever sing either of them it's haunting and beautiful.

Chris cornell, very kind and humble. This is the "Eddie Vedder version", took it from the Chris Cornell song for Temple of the Dog "Times of trouble". I honestly prefer by far the original Cornell version.

Not at all. It is Stone Gossard's (ex Mother Love Bone) instrumental. He wrote it during the Temple of the Dog project. While Chris was writing his own lyrics, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament were trying to recruit a singer to form a new band. The instrumental demo tape went to Eddie Vedder who wrote Footsteps. No one ripped off no one's song and Eddie Vedder and Chris became beautiful friends while recording Temple of the Dog.
